Default Swapping lower fork mounts

Hey guys,

I'm a new addition to /26 thanks to an impulse buy the other night. I picked up an 06 Ducati Sport 1000, all stock with 3900 miles on it for what I thought was a fair price, and I couldn't be happier.

Here she is being picked up by my friend, world famous drift superstar extraordinaire Tony Angelo.

Anyway, on to the purpose of my post. Most message boards, and especially Ducati boards, don't seem to have any answers to this simple question. Are the lower fork mounts of most OEM inverted forks removable?

This piece, if I'm referring to it by the wrong name.

Can they be pulled off of, say, a pair of GSXR forks like these?

Thanks for the help, looking forward to getting out of GDD occasionally now!

They can be removed. The issue is your ducati uses Marzocchi forks which are not the OEM on most budget bikes, so you'll have to find expensive parts for a simple radial conversion. You'll also need to get radial calipers, and most likely larger rotors. Very expensive upgrade if you're doing it for looks.

edit: Another thing you can do is find a shop to machine radial mounts which bolt to the stock location. Would look like this:

Actually what I'd like to do is to keep my stock lowers, along with the stock brakes and wheels. It definitely gets expensive as radial 4-pots will hit the spokes, so to go radial you then need new wheels, and the money keeps adding up.

I'm not in it for the looks, I'd simply like a better fork as the stock fork is apparently quite awful, especially for the price of the bike. Fortunately, it's a 50mm upper triple, 54mm lower triple, 43mm fork, which is common to most modern sport bikes. I'd much prefer to get a pair of stock GSXR forks (or similar) which are also 50/54 and 43 as well, and if the lower fork mounts can be removed, then I can simply swap the forks themselves and keep stock triple clamps and stock brakes/wheels/fender.

I'd upgrade the stock fork, but it seems nobody can/will touch the stock Marzocchi at all.

Thanks for the reply though!
