Default 520 conversion

im wondering what you (who have tried it) think about the 520 chain conversion. I did it on my 99' 900RR back about a year ago and i loved it but the kit was also one down in the front so im not to sure how much of a difference it really made. also what kinda life have you seen from a aluminum rear VS steal?

I've never done a 520 conversion without going up a tooth in the rear sprocket, so I don't know how big a difference in just doing the conversion would make. But less rotation mass is just that, so it certainly won't hurt. I'm thinking about it on my current bike, '04 ZX-10R and will let you know what I think. By the way how much do you weight? I know the manufacturers advertise equivalent tensile strengths, but that may be a concern.

I did a 520 conversion a few weeks ago (+5 rear, -1 front) with renthal sprockets, I love it you can tell a huge diffrence, ( i'm still a little sketchy for WOT in 2nd gear) As for life, my buddy has had his 520 w/ aluminum sprockets on his 05' GSXR1000 for about 8000 miles now, still in good condition, well except the chain has strecthed some but not teriible.

Its a nice conversion if your chain and sprockets are worn down but if you already have a 525 on your bike now its not really worth the money just for hte conversion unless you want to change some teeth on your sprockets too. The main difference is going to be if you regear your bike with some new sprockets not the smaller chain itself.

i figured it was something like that. I read some were that the 520 can drop weight by as much as 6 lbs. key word "as much" anyone know how much it really is?

that wont be extreme at all you will be happy once its done. My friend has a 02' 750 and he has 2 down in the front which I think is about equal or perhaps even lower then your bike (i don't know the stock gearing of yours). His bike pulls up sooo nice in 2nd. just remember though, if its wheelies you want, nothing works better then clutching it. with a -1/+3 you should be able to pull up 3rd gear with the clutch no prob. I swore I wouldn't stunt anymore and I haven't since but i get my new bike in about 3 or 4 days so we'll see. Its so addicting

damn right its addicting haha... thanks for the helpfull info man! and i know clutching it is key, but for some reason (my clutch slips a little as well ... im rebuilding that soon ... new friction and steels with springs) but i cant even clutch it up in second at all hardly... but i hope the gearing helps out.. thanks again man.
