Default 40MPH Hum

Today i started hearing this weird "hum noise" that i can hear really loudly after 40MPH. I took off the plastic fairing over the wheel, think it could be this. but the noise is still there. Do brake pads rub when brand new?

it was my understanding that brake pads rub all the time.

Could it be a wheel bearing? Either way you'd want to get that checked out before too long. You only have 2 good wheels...

Well after a short ride to try and find out where it is coming from, i noticed that with barely using the brakes, the front right disc is hot to the touch where as the left disc is just warm. My guess is the pad is rubbing like crazy, going to take it off and have a looksy.

It's called "bedding in"... I wouldn't call a brake noise a hum though, is it coming from the front or rear? the reason I ask is if it sounds like it is coming from under you your chain may be overly tight. this si a bad thing.

Sounds like its coming from the front. Ill check my chain though, i recently tightened it up.

Well i loosened the chain, and im still getting the sound. Even when im in neutral/engaging the clutch the sound is still there. I hope its just the brakes, i just passed 100 miles on the new pads.

A chain that is to tight will still hum even when drive is not engaged... you sure the chain is tensioned correctly? The hum could be tire wear or tread pattern/road harmonics. If your brakes are really dragging enough to hum, there should be visible smoking at times from over use and materials heated beyond specifications.
