No, it won't pass. CRV motors came out of light duty vehicles. Also, frankenstein motors are not legal.

it will not pass emissions it is considered a light truck engine and that is what the block is.

Before people start to say "yea my friend passed at the smog station, he just needed to pay a little extra" We are talking passing legally.

And no you will not pass.

Good point brotha https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif
The motor itself, if pretty much stock, and in decent shape, should pass numbers wise, just not legally according to state guidelines.

Incredible. The REF that your friend visited, violated city, and state emissions regulations.

If the motor is stock then you should pass under CRV standards, i dont know if youll pass as a civic though.

i highly doubt they violated anything.. i mean every1 and there mom has gone to southwestern...

im pretty sure its not illegal since.. i have seen old school moscle cars doing hybrids also.. and im talking about the ones that still have to do smog and all..

its like putting a flat head on a v8 that didnt come with a flat head

mainly aslong as it can be listed as a motor and that it follows the standard emmisions and pass..

they list lsvtec as acura vtec engine

and as for my friends LS vtec passing smog... it was bone stock.. using a gsr ecu stock

Interesting. There was never an LS/VTEC motor offered, it's pieced together, in your friends case, an Integra LS block, an Integra GSR ECU, and B16 head. I think that's awesome he got his stamp, but they went outside the guidelines, which is great, but rare, it's not going to happen everywhere.

If this was the case, the CRV motor would be legal to swap into a Civic or Integra, which it's not.

Re: Will a b20vtec pass emmissions?? (rodrez)

the no truck/suv motor in cars still applies, since theres really no way around it
as the ls vtec is still be concidered a car motor, for sure i kno you can pass with a car motor in a truck/suv body.. my friend actually had a LS bottom end with a gsr head... which is maybe why he passed a tad bit easier

It may not be legal to piece together a motor ( LS block, GSR head, ITR trans ), but to the average "Joe" all they will see is the LS block stamp and they assume it is an LS motor...

That's cool your friend got away with it, but the Referree he BAR'd with hooked him up, but did something illegal. An LS/V wasn't available from Honda/Acura, so it's not a legal swap, period. HT is supposed to be about schooling poeple correctly, and your information about your friend is great, but it's completely out of the norm. Go to the Referree in Escondido, and they'll turn you away for a swap like that.

We're not talking about an average "Joe," we're talking about the Referree. They're fully trained and know exactly what to look for. Also, they have a reference guide that tells them what to look for as they do the inspection.
