Did you mess with the transmission internals at all? Are you sure its perfectly installed?

coachkellum 09-09-2004 06:58 AM

Re: tranny problems *searched* help please (BauleyCivic)

never even cracked the tranny open i just bought the whole swap never took the tranny off the block. yea every thing is installed right. should i put oil in it and then try it, but i dont think that would matter tho

Only thing I can think of, is when I accidentally locked my shift interlock by aligning the guide bolt incorrectly (internal tranny parts), i was locked out of certain gears. If you cant shift gears thats a tranny problem.

POE 09-09-2004 10:08 AM

make sure the shift linkage is in working order i cant think of anything, like bauley said its inside the tranny. dunno

Re: (Vtecin94dx)

is their any tension when you try to shift into a gear

coachkellum 09-09-2004 12:57 PM

Re: (siblueg)

not really it just wiggles back and forth like it's in neutral. i push the clutch in and still nothing. the motor came out of a running civic si so i know the tranny cant be messed up. i did take the pin out of the linkage when i put the motor in but it can only go in one way right ? damn this sux i have a complete running swap that wont go into any gear.

BauleyCivic 09-09-2004 01:00 PM

Re: (coachkellum)

Did you try shifting the gears on the trans when it was out of the car? Are you sure its a linkage problem?

coachkellum 09-09-2004 02:01 PM

Re: (BauleyCivic)

i dont what the problem is i am going to take the linkage off agian tommorrow and start all over. this shit sux i know it is something stupid but can figure it out.where the pin goes on the tranny it is moving in and out like it should

Re: (coachkellum)

Do you have a front swaybar? User Built2Spill did an ITR 5 lug on his car and we tried putting on the front swaybar and in the air it shifted fine. When the car was lowered down the weight over the front end dropped the car down enough that the linkage hit the swaybar and you couldn't shift into gears. Just an idea. The swap could be heavier than your old motor and lower the car down just enough that you cant shift.

mr ricey is right this happened to my friends car also
and i don't stereo type

dantastic 09-09-2004 02:08 PM

see if the tranny goes into gear by moving the shift mechanism at the tranny itself. if it works there, then you have a problem with your linkage

coachkellum 09-09-2004 02:09 PM

Re: (siblueg)

naw my hatch is bone stock not even lowered yet so that cant be the problem? u guys think the tranny is blown? i dont see how tho because it came out of a totled civic that was rear ended so i know the tranny works.

Re: (siblueg)

Well keep in mind you have to have oil in it for the input shaft to turn if not your going to burn the bearings.

Check the shift lever see if its binding anywhere. I would take off the shift linkage and try to turn it by hand ( I use a 1/4" extension)

Re: (BatuKing)

is a a JDM swap? sometimes the distributors get in swaps that are from an Auto vehicle so all they do is put on a 5 speed trans and leave the flywheel/clutch off... did you check?

coachkellum 09-09-2004 02:27 PM

Re: (DOHCtorTHRUST)

it's a USDM B16a2. so your saying no oil in it will cause it not to go into any gear?

team703 09-09-2004 02:31 PM

Re: (coachkellum)

put oil in the tranny then it will shift fine.

coachkellum 09-09-2004 03:08 PM

Re: (team703)

why would no oil in it not let it go into any gear what so ever? if you dont mind me asking?

because If you have ever taken a manual tranny apart you will know its difficult to move the shift selector when the sleeves are dry. Your taking a piece of metal and rubbing it against one that has a very small clearance , so the lube helps move the shift fork easier against the sleeves of they synchro assembly

Put the fluid in it and turn on the car and let it idle, as I told you in my previous post I hope you didnt run the car w/o fluid in it. If so then you can damage the input bearings and gears.

Re: (BatuKing)

also shut the car of and see if it will go into gear. with the motor not running, it should go into gear. try to bump the starter with it in gear if it lurches foreward your good there. it might be you didnt get the slave cylinder mounted in the throw out fork right and your not getting the clutch disengagement. just my thoughts.
