spoon engine(s) for ma EG
is there anyone out there who can tell me anything about the spoon short blocks- i havent been able to find any websites with the specs so im thinking that its kinda risky.
i've got an eg6 with n1 muffler, 4-2-1, calipers+rotors, V-AFC, and other goodies but i need a bigger powerplant; this is why im asking... |

Are you willing to pay the cost of this engine? |
Re: spoon engine(s) for ma EG (SHAUNTS99)
im not gonna spend more than 10k-i figure that should be enough to get the engine-install it (i cant do it!!)-and wahtever other bits i need to do.
what i really wanna know is how good is it??!! |
Re: spoon engine(s) for ma EG (spoonedcivicG6)
I highly doubt it'd be very reliable or worth it. You can probably make similar power with a Type R engine and be more reliable.

Re: spoon engine(s) for ma EG (DevinW)
B16A ENGINE ASSEMBLY -- $5,880.00
B16B ENGINE ASSEMBLY -- $6,125.00 B18C ENGINE ASSEMBLY -- $6,370.00 They stock the B18c long block due to demand |
Re: spoon engine(s) for ma EG (DevinW)
well, the thing is that my dream car is a fully spooned g6-almost there exept for the powerplant-i guess wot you're suggesting is a b18c-spec-r with spoon mods yeah?? hummm...anyone out there tried this experiment yet? http://rely.net/~htimages/smile/emdgust.gif

Forget the Spoon engine.... why are all you people willing to spend so much on a Spoon motor when its nothing more then a stock motor with slight mods? You dont get any Spoon parts on it... no Spoon cams... no Spoon bored TB... no Spoon header.. no Spoon cam gears... no Spoon vavle train.... No Nothing! Why are you willing to pay so much? WhY? Re: spoon engine(s) for ma EG (SHAUNTS99)
IMO .. there is no way you can justify the price of thier engines. A slight compression bump and a balancing act and they charge twice as much! They dont even make good power.. but I guess its worth it to some.. after all... you get a Yellow vavle cover.. http://rely.net/~htimages/smile/emcrook.gif

Re: spoon engine(s) for ma EG (CRX_VTEC)
what lots of people forget is that many japanese NA race crate motors are put together with looser clearances, cuz they need to haul ass right away. i wouldnt want that on a engine i gotta commute on.
u can piece together spoon parts on your own, but in my opinion there are so many other ways u can achieve similar horsepower, dont think u rgonna get a spoon motor after a 6 month wait..strap it on the dyno and make 250hp |
Re: spoon engine(s) for ma EG (CRX_VTEC)
"I need some Spoon motors"....... where I have I heard that before??? http://rely.net/~htimages/smile/emsmilep.gif
|
Re: spoon engine(s) for ma EG (VTECVillain)
Spoon motors are a freaking rip.
Buy an ITR swap and drop some nice cams in it. http://rely.net/~htimages/smile/emsmile.gif |
Re: spoon engine(s) for ma EG (VTECVillain)
Don't go with the Spoon engine. It's really not worth it. They're not reliable for daily driving, plus even the 2.0 stroked B18C5 Spoon engine doesn't make good power
|
Re: spoon engine(s) for ma EG (B18C5-EH2)
I'm learning to blueprint engines so I can start selling stock motors specially blueprinted for a shit load of money...YEEEESSSSSS!!!!!
|
Re: spoon engine(s) for ma EG (B18C5-EH2)
Hey let the man do as he pleases...
...but IMO Spoon is just a name - and a lot of people buy it because that name is stamped on the product. |
Re: spoon engine(s) for ma EG (dom93hatch)
If your going to spend that kind of money build a 2.0 b18c, way more reliable and will make more power
|
Re: spoon engine(s) for ma EG (B18C5-EH2)
get an ITR swap and if you want some Spoon in it get the cams .(the spoon cams are mild cams)
|
Re: spoon engine(s) for ma EG (Spoon1)
are the spoon engines brand new? or used ones that they get?
|
Re: spoon engine(s) for ma EG (Spoon1)
Some of you guys are way off track.
More money? Go to your local Honda/Acura dealer and you'll see that the price is very close or maybe even cheaper for the Spoon Sports engine. If you then took that engine apart did all the machine work and put it back together the cost would be significantly more than the aftermarket counterpart. Not reliable? Give me a break. How is an engine that has been balanced with basically the same internals not reliable. You think that a high compression engine with aggresive cams and a lopy idle is going to be more reliable? Come on people don't spend so much time reading between the lines. B18C5=Same power? Again take an engine, throw on a few of the most proven aftermaket goodies, do the machining and slap it back together. For the same price you have an engine that is just as reliable and maybe only slightly more powerfull but makes good power were it counts the most. Sure go ahead and make fun of the Spoon Sports name. Seems as though it easy easy to do. Too many people are so concerned about have high HP numbers that they don't even care about anything else. There is more than one way to skin a cat, doing it with the biggest knife isn't necissarily the best way! I am not trying to make any personal attacks. I am just a fan of Spoon Sports as some of us still are and I am trying to bring in the other side of the coin to the posters question! http://rely.net/~htimages/smile/emthup.gif |

You do understand the SPOON crate motors aren't for street use, right? You're getting ripped off no matter what the hell you say. ...And I never said build a motor with higher CR or any of that shit. Take a stock ITR swap and add some better cams and don't even touch the the bottom end. Want to see a SPOON motor dyno'd? http://www.importreview.com/dyno/1.8/spoon.jpg Absolutely SHITTY. My bone stock ITR swap with onyl intake, exhaust, and re-chipped ECU pulled 175whp. This is a USDM ITR motor with the stock shitty cast-iron exhaust manifold and no tuning. Spoon motor? http://rely.net/~htimages/smile/emthdown.gifhttp://rely.net/~htimages/smile/emthdown.gif Know what you're talking about next time please, thanks! |
Re: spoon engine(s) for ma EG (B18C5-EH2)
So do you know anyone who has had a SPOON motor and drove it daily for a long time?

there meant more for racing..they tell you that
