H&R Cup Kit Install on 99 LX -- a few pics
First off, a warning to any with this kit or installing this kit:
DO NOT USE THE LOWER SPRING PERCH IN THE FRONT unless you know what to do with an insanely low car (i.e. rolling fenders, removing fenderliners and other body work). when we first installed the kit with the springs on the lower perch, it looked like it was bagged in the front and it rubbed and scraped and scratched, gouged up my tires. ugh. spent Sunday morning moving to the upper perch. on to the install. Sorry it's not more well documented, but we were in a time crunch. before: http://popfaction.com/images/car_build/before.jpg rear LCA: I thought only Si and EX LCA's had holes for sway bars. That looks like a sway bar hole in my LX LCA. anybody know if there's a difference? http://popfaction.com/images/car_build/lca_closeup.jpg up on the lift with no suspension: http://popfaction.com/images/car_build/onlift.jpg Zach workin' the spring compressor. very handy little tool! http://popfaction.com/images/car_build/springpress.jpg Kit fully assembled (note ill-advised lower perch assembly on front (right)): http://popfaction.com/images/car_bui...embled_kit.jpg This is what we cut off the bumpstops: http://popfaction.com/images/car_build/bumpstops.jpg after: http://popfaction.com/images/car_glam/g_shot_1.jpg more after pics here. an interesting note, to those wondering what kind of springs come with the Cup Kit: Zach just happened to have his set of H&R Sports there (for his DelSol) and we lined the fronts up for comparison (Cup Kit on left, Sports on right). They're not lined up in the pic, but they're almost exactly the same height, within a centimeter. And the Cup Kit springs have more coils, which act like a tender spring to keep it seated. http://popfaction.com/images/car_bui...ng_compare.jpg So I don't know if this helps the debate over what the hell springs are in a Cup Kit, or just brings up more questions. My theory is now, that the springs are made specifically for the kit as opposed to being H&R Race or Sport springs. And of course, that brings us no closer to knowing the rates... |

Re: (Barabus)
As your picture pointed out (I did the same thing) the springs don't look the same, period. Whether the spring rate is the same at each compression range or not, but I doubt it. I don't see a progressive rate spring that looks different is going to exhibit the same properties as the sports.
Not to mention the label differences. You might want to point out that those are both the front springs too "VA" being front on the Cup kit, and "F" the front on the sports. I don't see a company going through effort to "hide" if they were running sports on it. The selling points for it are in the shock, not the spring. I really like my cup kit. Cept my passenger side sits lower than my drivers side. I have no idea why. ('94 vx) |

..which, ironically, are made by a different company. <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by project_mercy »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">I really like my cup kit. If the forks were at different heights on each side, this may give you an uneven ride height, no? |

[EDIT] keep the rims, it looks dope, just maybe when you have time DIY gunmetal or black it out.. it'll look hella good, oh did you roll your fenders? i have 205/40/17 and i nver had any rubbing or anything... |
