civic really low idle

Hi guys, i have a 94 honda civic with a d16z6. When the car is cold it idles at about 1.5k rpms but once it warms up the idle drops down to about 100rpms, this suck because the whole car shakes. I tried adjusting the throttle screw but it wont work and yes i unplugged the iacv before adjusting. I also changed out the iacv and got a new tps sensor there are no vacume leakes either i checked for that. Can any poit out the problem? Thanks

It sounds like you need to clean out your FITV

Re: civic really low idle

sometimes the idle regulator plunger cloggs up its easy to clean and can be found bolted to the inlet manifold i had the same problem and the car also does it after a weeks worth of no usage but settles into proper idle once it has done some miles

My hatch does the same thing... usually when I start it up first thing in the morning(it idles around 400-600 rpms) but after a couple seconds it idles normal.... cleaning the iacv helped out somewhat ill try cleaning out the fitv next

Have you tried adjusting the FITV?

Re: civic really low idle

Yea, and the idle only rises when its cold and once the car is warmed up it goes down to like 100rpms

Re: civic really low idle

Follow FSM procedure to adjust your idle speed. There's a how-to in the FAQs sticky. Also, at 100rpm your engine would stall itself out. Stock tachometers are notoriously inaccurate.

My engine dpesnt stall but it shakes like if it will stall

Like I said, at 100rpm, your engine WOULD stall.

Also, like I said, follow FSM procedure to readjust your idle.

Factory Service Manual.

Read the FAQ's sticky, the write up there follows FSM procedure.

Ok i just finished all the steps in the FSM and it worked for like 10 minutes the the idle dropped down again

I had the same problem and swapped out the iac and still had the same problem that started about a week later ended up having a bad iac and to replace it again
