Ball joint problem

Ok I got my brakes in today. But the driver side font lower ball joint doesn't seem centered. It's crooked slightly to one side. The other side seems perfectly centered. Does anyone know if thuis is fine. Also can the dx front lower ball joint be swaped over to the new SI front arm. Are they the same. Thanks.

Lower ball joints are the same between trims for this particular model...

what do you mean crooked and not centered... it should sit near flush.

pdiggitydogg 07-23-2004 02:36 PM

the knuckles are different, but the actual ball joints are identical

wdskuk 07-23-2004 02:55 PM

When I said crooked I mean it's not centered. When I move it to the center it looks like it's shifted to one side. Once I let go it's angled to one side again. Do you think it's bent.

Re: (wdskuk)

thats much better. balljoints should be able to move over to that position. does yours move back freely to center?

wdskuk 07-23-2004 10:02 PM

Yup it moves back to the center. But the joint or rod doesn't sit in the center

Dannnnnnnnnnggggggg.

crx_88_si 07-24-2004 09:32 AM

ya the end looks like it has been flattened out and beaten. i'd replace that.

are the threads near the hole supposed to be like that??

wdskuk 07-24-2004 10:00 AM

Yeah the thread is like that. The nut screws in

wdskuk 07-24-2004 10:25 AM

I just checked the threads and they seem a little messed up. I can't really turn the nut onto the threads without turning the joint

hey Mustar is that you pounding out a ball joint? anything special you have to go just put them out from the bottom up? I was worried I would have to press them out but if you did it with that I can take them out no problem. does the new one go in easy that way or what it the trick?

I just put gsr suspension in my hatch and my ball joint threads were fucked from being pouned I just called the mac guy and got the right size die and cleaned out those threads.... I would replace it if you can if not it still should work the way it is just line it up and get the nut on there... USE THE KOTTER PIN

how much are new ball joints???

Yes, you can pound the old one out and the new one in. When pounding the new one in, use a little grease and a smaller hammer tapping slowly.

I've been through that before too. Sometimes the thread is just a LITTLE flattened but it can be fixed. Take a SUPER sharp knife and cut at the threads while checking periodically with the nut to see how and if it'll go on.
