99-00 si vs new si!!

okay after reading post on clubsi and honda-tech i was under the impression that the 99-00 si was a tad bit faster than the new si. then i went over to ephatch.com and those guys are saying that they have no problem taking 99-00 because of the torque (displacement) advantage and that off the line they get a pretty good jump on the 99-00 si. i thought stock for stock or mod for mod that the 99-00 si would be a little faster than the newer ones. i have never ran a new si but around here they never seem to mess with me. can someone clear this up cause i'm thinking about getting a new si (they have some around here for $15900 with 2.9% interest). i'll be happy if its just as fast as my si.

keep your SI the new ones looklike little minivans.. i cant stand them.. look at the wieght difference in the cars that might help in your judgement of which is faster

i think my exterior looks better than the new ones but man, the interior in the new si is so sweet. think the rally shifter might take some getting use to. performance wish are they pretty much about the same?

Re: 99-00 si vs new si!! (CaTiRo)

Without looking up real numbers I know both the Si's have 160hp, and I'd think the new Si would have more torque with the 2.0L. But the new Si is heavier.

BTW - I personally like the look of the new Si's.

Carlo 11-09-2003 07:18 PM

If I were you, I'd stick with the 6th gen Si and just boost the B16.

your si is faster than the new ones. go look at power/torque/weight. and then go look at stock times for both and i bet you will find out that yours is faster.

Re: 99-00 si vs new si!! (CaTiRo)

the new si is slower than the 99-00. its got more torque but also a lower redline.

Carlo 11-09-2003 07:23 PM

Actually, I've heard that its a driver's race between the 6th gen Si and 7th.

Re: 99-00 si vs new si!! (JDM-97CX)

1/4 numbers are looking about the same, horsepower is the same, the new si have more torque but then again its heavier. wonder if the torque will make up for the weight.

too bad the new si doesn't keep the horsepower to liter ratio like the 160 1.6l. would be nice to have a 200 2.0l si. :-)

Re: 99-00 si vs new si!! (CaTiRo)

the stock 1/4 mile times are 15.8 for the 2000 si and 16.1 for the 2003 si. i'm guessing a good driver in an 03 could take a novice in a 99-00.. the resale is going to suck on the new si's though. sadly, no one wants them. that is why dealers are selling them thousands less than msrp. some 99-00's were going for more than msrp around here back then.

Well I have actually seen the two race (granted this is only one instance) The 00 had DC sports exhaust, AEM intake, and short shifter, the 02 Si was completely stock at the time. Even when starting in a line (the 00 in front) the 02 would easily pass it before too long. It was really no competition. Maybe my friend tyler's 00 Si is a lemon or something, but it didnt have a chance. Rick

Alex1 11-09-2003 07:32 PM

older si's are better than the new si's especially when it comes to VTEC

your buddy probably couldn't drive or he probably did get a lemon. with almost the same amount of hp and i'm assuming almost the same amount of tq(since your friend has i/e) your buddy should of took him with the weight differences. that or they would of just stayed head to head.

anyway, my opinion on the new SIs https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif Honda sure screwed up on this one...they should of bumped up the hp along with the tq to make up for that massive weight. i've seen these slug bugs run and i honestly think that they're SLOW!!!

stock the new ones are 16.2
the 99-00 1/4 time is 15.7

still you hear a lot of people say that the new ones are faster. i have heard that its easier to drive(launch) the new si over the older si. is this true?

are you insane? http://images.honda-tech.com/set1//smile/emcrook.gif

I read in some magazine one time who built a new si for autox and modded it up to the full extent to stay in the regular mod class. They raced it against an older 1990 si hatchback with the d16a6 motor aem intake, a cheap ass obx header, and custom exhaust, with not sure what suspension and nice tires. The 1990 si owned the newer one which had more mods.

The new Si's are trash. I beat one in my del Sol S with intake and exhaust. He was all stock. Keep your 99/00 Si. They look WAY better and pull harder. i- Vtec is trash.

Re: 99-00 si vs new si!! (CaTiRo)

well.. the newer Si's still have a lot more aftermarket support that keeps growing and growing.
The B16's are pretty much done with newer mods.. you know what i mean. Like, there isn't anything new coming for them.
But the newer k20's have a lot more potential than the old b16's..
Just think about that too, in your comparison of the two before you make your choice.

Personally, even if there are way ttoo many civic coupe bodies out there.., I still like the Older '99-'00 Si. They look really nice and sound nice and have a lot of potential to be fast.
I want one! lol

Good luck wit ur decision

Stock for stock the EM1 is going to beat out the EP's in straight line performance 1/4 mile wise, with out to much of a hassle. Bolt-on's though, I'm sorry but you can't beat the K-Series motors hands down. The simple fact that with an ITR head swap, bolt-on's, reflash and some slicks and you are breaking in the 12's all motor in a new si w/ full interior and ammenities. Talk to Norris @ Nu Image about that one. Regardless of how they look, K-Series is the future.

Can't say I agree to everything he said but I kno hands down an Em1 will take out a Ep3 in a 1/4 mile.
If I were you and really want an EP3 I'd go for it. So many people dog their body but man, its so original, sure ok, it needs a drop and some nicer rims but it's not like you ARENT going to modify that. They look really sleak when modified right, go for it man! https://honda-tech.com/forums/images.../h-emblem1.gif https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/embeer.gif

yeah..... that and those Ford Focus'.... i hate both.... keep the em1...... it's a work of art IMO

91civicDXdude 11-09-2003 09:15 PM

i ripped a 03 Si pretty hard with my 91 hatch with B18A1, I/H/E. new Si's are turds.

katzenjammer84 11-09-2003 10:27 PM

I think I'm a minority but I like the new EP Si's. Granted the old ones were fun to toss around too...but as we begin to see junked RSX-S's a plenty, a head swap would make the EP's scream fairly well.

Junked cars and aftermarket has yet to catch up. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif

yea but look at the kits coming out for k series into ek/eg/dc2 blah blah blah... you put a k20 in that em1 or even a k20a2 you would destroy that ep3... and you still get the good looks of the 99-00's https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif
