Default me car is broke :(

I didn't even know what to search, so I'm just gonna tell it... My car broke today, I was driving, stopped at a stop sign and when I went to put it back in gear, it decided not to comply. My shifter won't go into gear, I can put the shifter in a complete circle without even pressing the clutch in. Anyone have any idea whats going on? The tow guy said he thought it might be a busted shifter cable or maybe even the clutch... I dunno, help

Oh yeah, its a 2001.

Would that screw up the shifter?

If you can maneuver the shifter in a circle, it can easily be the shiftlink cable. That's a cheap fix, so I'd recommend looking into that first.

The clutch would have nothing to do with the fact that you can't get the shifter to locate a gear.

i think when you blow your clutch you can move in all gears without engaging the clutch, so yours might be different.

This is true, but you wouldn't be able to move from, say first to fifth, without going through Neutral. It sounds like the divider between gears isn't working, so that would make me assume that the cable is toast.

Gotta be the cable or shifter itself!
