The d17a1 has the cat bolted directly at the head. The d17a2 uses a b-pipe, going under the car to the cat.

D17a2 Manifold and cat. The cat is #5 in the second pic, and it bolts at the flange from the manifold:

Here is the d17a1 manifold. Notice how the cat sits RIGHT AT the head, under the manifold. The manifold and cat are one whole piece:

To convert over to an EX exhaust, you need basically a whole exhaust system. The manifold, B-pipe with cat, and cat back. You will also need to extend your second o2 sensor, as the one on the EX sits right before the cat, and yours is at the manifold.

Eh its just too boring if I say:

"it is different because of the mounting of the cat"

Have to be specific when dealing with cars. I have learned that over the years.

the best header IMO is d17a1 specific, its a Kamikaze header.

the only d17 header to have a 2 1/4" collector.

You'd get a pretty good beating from a bunch of N/A tuners here. Not to mention that Keichi Tsuchiya and other drivers from Japan actually prefer N/A over F/I.
