Default Engine knocking

Hey guys I was searching ut couldn't find anything specific to my issue..I have a 2004 civic ferio awd with a d15b engine recently I did a head gasket job but when replacing the valve cover the mech didn't realize and there was a crimp in the valve cover gasket long story short I got engine knocking after the oil leaked out and didn't even realize until it starts to know.. took it back to the shop the mechs says I need a new engine or crankshaft and bearings fixed...the problem I have with this is that I think I have a valve noise and they need to be adjusted as when I poured some oil treatment in the engine, while the treatment was still at the top the noise went away but as soon as it got mixed in the noise came back.. no I have a question.. if I have bad crank and bearings wouldn't the noise go away when I after the treatment circulated and not when it was just poured in and still at the top? My speculations are that the valves need to be be redone as when the treatment is still on them they engine is quiet.. Why help and thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance.

Did the oil light on the cluster come on? That usually happens once the pressure drops below 10 psi. Try a different garage and specifically ask for a valve adjustment and a new valve cover gasket. Also, check to see the timing belt didn't jump, line all the markers up for #1 tdc.

Thanks for replying bro.. but no the engine oil never came on at any given time even with the sound at its loudest... Ok I will go ahead and ask for valve adjustments and see what they say and get new gaskets as well.. ok I'm not sure how to check the timing but I'll Google that and see what I find.. is it that if the oil light didn't come on it may not have sent dangerously low?
