Default PREP WORK BEFORE MAACO?

Can someone post a write up or any step by step help concerning the do it yourself prep work a lot of people are suggesting i do before going to maaco and getting my car painted.. should i leave my sideskirts on? Eventhough i want the part of the car where the clips for the sideskirts are to painted too. Should I take my lips off even though I want them to be painted but I want the bottom of the bumper to be painted also. Do I use a power sander for the car or what? What should I tape up or take off? (I drive a 99 coupe by the way) thanks in advance for the help.

dude a word or advice, don't use maaco, it will look ridiculous. A easy way i found agood painter when i moved here, was i found a "custom" car with the type of paint i liked, true color and glossy and i asked the guy where he got it painted at, went there paint came out great and a good price, so other words, find a good private painter

Must we go over this again? Maaco stores are privately owned which means quality varies from location to location. This means you must check out your local "Maaco" and decide for yourself.

Also obviously Maaco has cheap paint jobs, if you pay $300 dollars for a paint job can you expect $1000 + quality? Maaco also does paint jobs of a higher quality and the same rules apply as to any other body shop.

If you want all those pieces painted off the car it's not a bad idea, but it may cost you more, and make sure you have them document that you gave them those parts and to paint them off the car. Anytime you get any sort of bodywork done anywhere you should make yourself very clear about what you want done. As for write ups I'd search through some of the threads involving others doing body work and that should give you an idea.
