Opinions on 17's

Okay, I am looking at some Motegi 17 X 7 wheels with 205 40 17 tires. I have Tokico Blues paired up with H & R sports (1.75f, 1.5r). I have an Ingalls camber kit waiting to be installed (camber is not that bad on the car). Argue your point on why I'll be okay with this setup or why I should change my plans from this. I'm trying to see the pros and cons people are experiencing with this or similar setups.

17's https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif to big and to heavy. IMO

Re: Opinions on 17's (backlash)

17's are ok in my book. I have them on my teg and to me they look a lot better than 16's or lower. Fills the wheel well gap and just plain look better to me. It depends on you, are you alot about getting everybit of time off of your quarter, or do you want to drive something that looks nicer that weigh a little more. It all comes down to your opinion, half the people on this board will do anything to shave a .10 off of their quarter time, and some don't care about that and want a good looking car.

Umm, 17's would provide more traction, right?

Solipsist 12-24-2002 08:33 AM

Re: Opinions on 17's (tzsir)

The width of the tire will give more traction (6.5 or 7 width) Depends on what you want to do, 17 are more for show, (just my opinion) if you want performance, go with a 15 inch rims instead.

Re: Opinions on 17's (Racer X)

my volk te37 17x7.5. Bad? I don't understand? Heavy? Nope. Wanna autocross? Go bigger and wider. If you wanna drag go smaller. If your roads suck where you live go smaller. If your all show go 18. 17 in my opinion is not all that bad. CL, TL, IS300 all come with 17 stock. In my opinion it's not a bad choice at all, but go with higher quality wheels, forged. Bending a rim is not a fun thing to experience, trust me.

Racer X 12-24-2002 12:15 PM

Re: Opinions on 17's (94hondahybrid)

I'm not concerned with drag times cuz I'll just throw my blade rims on if I go to the track. My main concern is rubbing or bottoming out on the fender wells. A little rub while making tight turns or on hard bumps is accecptable, I just don't want it rubbing constantly. With the setup I mentioned at the top, will rubbing occur quite a bit?

dont get motegi rims. those things are heavy ass hell and cheap. at least get some 17" rotas or other better brand.

they sell motegi at pep boys and sears

see i dont even think 17's or 18's look good for show...IMO, they are just too much. i think 16 is the best of both worlds https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

vteg 12-24-2002 01:02 PM

Re: Opinions on 17's (Racer X)

You will not rub often with that setup. I am 1.7 lowered all around on 17's with 205/40's. I only rub if I enter a parking lot too fast, except at the bank. The driveway has a high incline. I am more concerned about rubbing my header, which happens sometimes.

my honest opinion is that they are ugly

get 15's or 16's

I'm a fan of 16's for Integra's for a good looks/performance combination. Wouldn't ever do 17's personally on an integra.

I'm on a low budget, and I like the way the motegi's look. Like I said, if I want to do a performance run at the strip, I'll slap my blades on. If anyone can tell me where I can get a comparable wheel for around the same price (140), let me know.

Re: Opinions on 17's (Racer X)

Please don't get Motegis. They are easily bent as others have said and they are a cheap-made wheel.

Re: Opinions on 17's (fEEsh)

Fine you talked me outta them. How much do Rota's cost? Are they comparable in style? Also, I think I might just go 16's. It will still look good with aftermarket wheels and I won't have the headache of worrying about tire rub.

i had 17's and i wasnt happy. they were heavy, and the car just felt floaty. i have some LS rims now and the car is more agile thru turns and feels quicker. get 15's IMO.

Re: Opinions on 17's (rewsnaeht)

rotas run about 500 a set shipped. They have some nice designs too. There is a group buy on for ADR 17's that look like the racinghart cpo-35 (rota subzero). 400 shipped for the whole set of 17's, or 360 shipped for 16's

i think 17's dont look proportional on an integra. the wheels look too big for the car. get some 15's or 16's. i agree that 16's are the best of both worlds. a good compromise of performance, looks, and price. cheaper for rims and tires.

Re: Opinions on 17's (Racer X)

i'll sell you some 17" racing hart evolution M5000's that were on my old integra ls. they are in mint cond. they come with 215/40/17 yokohama paradas. the tires have 75% left. im looking to get $750 for them. i will try and get a pic on here. thanks,Randy
-Personally i had the 18's and 17's on a integ. and they were both a little too heavy in my opinion.especially the 18's man those are horrible on hondas, lol. 17's are ok. i also had 14's and 15's on my teg and man they dont catch a lot of traction but once you get going and hit vtec your car just fly's.Right now im looking for some black 16" roto slipstreams. something light that still looks decent.
-if i was you .Id BUY MY WHEELS!!,lol. j/k ... i would try and find some 16" racing harts, and drop your car a little more and get a camber kit. get some good tires too!

Re: Opinions on 17's (95integragsr1984)

unless you need brake clearance spend the money on more useful mods or some education

the cars the other guy listed come with 17's because they need the room to clear the brakes, those cars also have a lot more torque than a b18

Re: Opinions on 17's (Racer X)

ok i have that same set up right now, i have h&r sports w/tokico blues and 17's to be honest with you they rub like all hell, i think the springs continue settling and it keeps gettin lower and lower in the front. if anything i want 15s, or 16s. only thing i dont have is the camber kit.

Well your opinions are totally wrong ...
... It is an unpainted wings west bigmouth... the whole car is getting repainted
... They are authentic Tenzo R gunmetal SHU4z
... Far from a stunna ... you havent seen my beef ... i PERSONALLY rebuilt my entire engine

but its cool... i like to jump in and drop some fades sometimes myself (;

16 x 7 Velox VX-8R's.

What do you think?

Re: Opinions on 17's

i'm like the others when they say 17x7.5 lightweights. 7.5 wide provides good traction, plus with 17s u can fit some large rotors and calipers and they still won't rub. try getting the brembo big brake kit with 15's or 16s, u can't fit the rotors in unless they're 17's. when escalades are rollin on duece duece's and 24's, bmw's with 19's and dubs, and u park next to them they just make 15" and 16" look small. now 18" might be too much, usually for show, 17" is very nice. why move from 15's to 16's? thats a 1" increase. not worth it imo unless u get a good deal or unless they're superlight. but i'm not telling others what they should do, everyone has the right to put on whatever size wheels they want. i like 17x7.5, just my opinion.

JeremyL 12-30-2002 05:23 AM

Re: Opinions on 17's (CWESTINDC2)

WHAT!!! since when would or should anyone on this board give two craps about looking good next to set of 80lb dubs or deuce deuce's do you have a Gucci watch too? or maybe you roll thru the club with yo Prada on wearin berberry to swim

lol just joshin but seriously like i said before the only logical reason to put 17's on any fwd Honda would be brake clearance and even then ur lookin at spendin some cash on some very lightweight wheels, 12lbs or less would be optimal. And if i were to ever upsize at all (unless i added big brakes) I would get a set of the Spoon Replica's that weigh 11lbs and would even only get those when the Azenis become unavailable and id get the S-03 in 195/15
