Engine shuts off while driving. No check engine light, starts back up, no codes?
 

Hello!

Weird problem, twice yesterday my Mothers 06 just shut off. First just after going over a speed bump in a parking lot so maybe 10mph at best. It immediately was able to be restarted with no symptoms.

About 10 miles later driving down a residential street coming to the corner to turn (I don't know if she was at a stop or just coasting to the stop, but she says, all the dash lights turned off except the headlight green light. Again no issue starting up.

What I checked:

1) Battery is relatively new, it tested at 12.5 volts
2) New alternator, tested at 13.90 volts
3) No check engine light
4) I used my inexpensive scan tool and no codes or faults to report.

I followed her home with no issues.

I read Fuel pump could be an issue, but if the fuel pump shut off, would the speedometer, and other dash indicators go black (this was at night)? I wasn't driving it so the symptoms are second hand.She has no issues accelerating. over 1/4 on the fuel,

Any thought what to check?

Try to vigorously move the battery cable ends.

They should not budge.....

I would check all fluids, oil and anti-freeze. There are sensors that trigger alarms. You might need an expensive scan tool to see those, probably a $700 one.

Thanks. I read it may be the Main Relay (fuel pump). I ordered one. I will check the fluids.
