“Unfortunately, system UI has stopped” messege???
Hello,
My friend has a 2019 Hybrid EX-L which has 85k miles on it in Korea.
Last week he got some error message on the infotainment system “Unfortunately, System UI has stopped” from the center screen.
Touch doesn’t work, so nothing he can do with the screen. To reset the system he turned on/off engine, removed the battery terminal, and followed the reset process from Youtube, but nothing was worked.
A local Honda dealer told him to replace the entire unit which costs about $3,000.
Is there anyway to fix it besides replacing it?
Can you guys help him out?
Thank you,
Un.
This is an Android issue. The infotainment system is an Android device, much like a phone or a tablet. It runs a set of apps specific to your car, but all are Android Apps. So, if the system has a problem with an app named "FooBar," it will stop that app and display the message "Unfortunately, FooBar has stopped." And yes, it can sound worse than it is. In the hybrid, there is an app that runs the Power Flow Meter that shows you how the battery and engine are working together. It is named "Power Flow," so the message says "Unfortunately, Power Flow has stopped." But it starts itself back up.
So in your case, the app named "System UI" was the offender. It probably means the User Interface, but that is a guess. A reboot of the system sounds necessary. Since I'm not sure what the "reset process from YouTube," here is a way that mi\ght do something, since it doesn't start off with touch-screen prompts:

Since I'm not sure what the "reset process from YouTube," here is a way that mi\ght do something, since it doesn't start off with touch-screen prompts:
- Power vehicle to ON. No brake pedal, hit Start button twice. This is one step past Accessory. No brake pedal, hit Start button twice.
- Hold the HOME/SOURCE/POWER buttons down at the same time, until a beep sounds, to (hopefully) gain access to a diagnostic menu. It should look like this:
- Hold the HOME button down until you gain access to the "Toggle In Line Diag" menu. This is a simple on/off toggle menu meant for QA at the factory. The current selected setting will be "Completion". Select "Incomplete". This will open the Line Diag Tool view. It could look like this, but last time I tried it I thought it was different than I remembered.
- Note here: you may feel you are stuck in this screen as the back button will not work and there is no Return button like other Diag menus. At any time in this view, you can hold HOME/SOURCE/POWER and gain access back to the main Diagnosis menu. Holding HOME here will allow you to toggle back to "Completion".
- This view does a bunch of automated system tests, and there are two that are manual tests. All of the boxes should change to Green color after a few seconds as the automated tests complete. You will notice two Gray boxes on the right, though. These are manual tests for the microphone and volume controls on the steering wheel. Hit the Volume Up or Volume Down button once, then hit the Mic button once. These boxes should turn Green and allow you to tap the Exit Diag button.
- After this it will cause a system reboot of the head unit. The first time takes a bit to get used to. After that it is very easy to toggle into this view and reboot the system.
- If any automated tests fail, you may not be able to get out of the Line Diag Tool screen without doing what I said in note above. Also, if the test fails, it will not trigger the In Line Diag menu to go into Completion, which means the automated testing screen will open every time you turn the car on.
- As I said above, holding HOME/SOURCE/POWER and then holding HOME will allow you to toggle the In Line Diag back to Completion which will cancel this screen from opening on every car start.

I tried to get a video from him, but it took me forever.
Unfortunately, it was failed after step 3.
Please check the attachment I uploaded today.
Thank you,
