Default trans trouble

New to forum, long story on this problem. Sport shift light started blinking intermittently, usually connected to foul weather. When blinking only have 1st and 3rd, (must shift it manually. Has progressively gotten worse, more often it blinks. I have removed the tcm, find no burn evidence, and it is throwing codes if service connector is jumped. I recently replaced the VSS, (was losing tach and speedo and drivability was affected. The s light has also come on on occasion and stayed on, without the button depressed. This causes same problem only seems worse than when blinking. I have now replaced the b solenoid, (lower shift solenoid) and it changed nothing. I have cleared the tcm by disconnecting the battery but the problem persists. PLEASE HELP, I do not want to be raped by a dealer for the fix on this one. I am fairly handy with tools but somewhat lacking in the electrical arena. This is a 1991 Accord LX with auto trans and 114k on car. This car shifts and runs perfect when the s light does not blink.

I had the same problem on my 91ex and it turned out to be my transmission control unit. The light would blink and then i could barely do anything. Didnt accelerate worth anything and would top out about 35 or so. Thats what i found out, dont know if thats your problem but thats something to check

my 91 did the same! its the TCM its located by the ECU under the carpet on the passenger floorboard. its the smaller box bolted to that cover. you can open it up after disconnecting the battery and you will see a spot burnt on your board. if you search around in the post here you will find that you can buy one from some one here alot cheaper than at the dealer. in the mean time you can unplug the lower control solenoid and shift it manually. this will work untill you get a TCM board. but your shift button wont. and it wont down shift on you. good luck

Accordingtojoe,
Unfortunately, a bad TCM doesn't always show signs of burning.
Your car however, is exhibiting the classic signs of a bad TCM.
I sell rebuilt TCMs at 1/5th the cost of a new one with a 2 year warranty.

Thanks all for the suggestions, I appreciate the help with this stumper. To CMRVI1, could you provide contact and pricing info, looks like I am in the market for a new tcm. Is there a way for me to test it prior to replacement, just curious as to why it is throwing codes if not working.

Just wondering, with the symptoms I described in initial post, did I waste my money in replacing the VSS and Solenoid B (speed sensor). Also it was suggested to disconnect this sensor, which is supposed to allow better driveability minus auto shift pattern. Not to distrust anyone, just don't want to burn trans and have a worse and more expensive problem. Can I really do this while I wait for a new tcm.
