Default powersteering problem?

Have a 91 accord coupe bone stock and the power steering fluid in the reservoir keeps on leaking out from the top of the cap. I always fill it to the max line then after a week or so the fluid is all over around the reservoir tank. All lines seems fine no leaks but seems like the area around the hose clamp is always soaked.

What can be causing this?

best thing to do fill it up and let it run see where the leak come from. or drive it for while and check it again.. but clean old fluid

if you are saying that fluids are coming out of the reservoir, is your fluid brownish looking? (honda power steering fluid should be clear if it's fresh/new)...you might wanna check if your fluids are foaming when you drive (or have someone turn the wheels and you check) or your steering pump making noise? if that is the case then you have a leak/opening somewhere in the system that sucks in air or system too old causing failure...hope that helps

try filling only part of the way between max and min. lines, then slowly turn your steering wheel back and forth to get out the air bubbles.

how much spills out?- is there a lot of grime built up on your pump/hood?

From the sounds of it it may be bubbling up and over flowing.

You probably have a leak somewhere in the line allowing air to get in there that travels to the reservoir and then causes it to bubble.

Look for leaks near the pump and rack.

Checked the steering rack last night and looks like it is leaking from the passenger side. The boot is ripped and I can see fluids around the area but didn't think of turning the wheel to see if it leaks.

Checked the price for a new one and its pretty expensive. Might go the with a rebuild kit, it seems like you just replace all the gaskets in the rack and pinion then you have a new one. Right?

How difficult is to rebuild the steering rack? Should I just buy one from the parts store?

i think it's simpler just to get a rebuilt rack from the store

so the only thing to worry about is an alignment job after you r & r it & add the honda-only specified fluid and bleed out the air bubbles as stated earlier

i got one with a lifetime warranty for other makes/models and they've held up until you hit a pothole and rip that dust boot, inner seal again
