Default 97 Accord SE Shift Lock

Lately when I put the car into park I have to shut the car off put the key in the shift lock release and then put the car in netural to start it. The car starts fine in park but it will not move from Park, even after hititng the brake. Sometimes it works like normal, others it sticks like this. Any ideas what to do?

The next time that happens, check to see if the brake lights are coming on when you step on the brake. They should be on. If they aren't, there might be a problem with the brake light switch. The PCM needs that brake signal in order to release the shifter out of park.

Something similar happened to me. I took it up to honda and they said that there is a small chip right in front of the shifter that was damaged. It cost abot $350 to fix. Might be the same problem.
