'91 engine help
I've got a '91 EX, and just recently a loud squealing and scraping sound has developed. It seems to be coming from the serpentine belt area, almost like a fan is scraping against something. I've checked all the fans and nothing seems to be bent or touching another part. Also, it's loudest when the car is idling, and seems to let up when accelerating. I've stopped driving it because I'm a little scared of what might be going on. Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks!
There are only a few outside components over in that area.
Alternator, a/c compressor and power steering pump.
Try removing the power steering belt and see if it goes away.
Then try removing the alternator, a/c compressor belt and observe.
If that's not it, then it could be in the timing and balance belt area inside the covers.
It could be a water pump bearing or timing and balance belt rollers going out.
