getting ready to send the head out for port and polishing off the spare engine, just now pulling it apart, and this is what i found. Needless to say its worse then i anticipated.







any pointers on how to determine whether the internals are reusable?

 

looks like the oil changes were extended beyond "normal" intervals. but it does not matter since you will send it to the machine shop anyway. they will be able to clean all that gunk out once they hot tank it.

 

what about the marks on the cams, and relation to that and the rockers, anything to be concerned about?

 

Maybe you should change your oil every now and then? Just a thought. As long as they're just marks, and not scoring, you should be ok re-using them

 

if only it was from my car then that statement would be valid, unfortunately this is a spare engine i picked up that im disassembling.

 

it looks like it was running fine, just extended oil change. the cam journals still have the oem crosshatch(thats good). the marking on the cams could just be from the engine sitting.

take the head and get it cleaned and checked, im sure it fine.
