why do you want a fmic? It's been proved top mount is better.. unles you're boosting so much the top mount isn't big enough/.. imo front mount is a waste of money.. you can even get bigger scoops and top mounts now.. but it sure does look pretty

Nice work!

By the way, how much power is gained with this kind of set up?

umm top mount better?? umm right.

FMIC is almost necessary with an aftermarket turbo, like a VF30 Avo Pe. etc...
Make better power over a TMIC.

yeah did everythign myself .. its a major pain in the *** that bumper has liek 20 bolts to it i swear ..

the turbo will have a VF30 in the future,
thers tape over the covers cuz my dumbass cut out the fog light moutning points and i didnt know the cover needs 1 of those points so i put urethane on the back side and tape is there to hold it until it drys

I've done a greddy FMIC on an 04 wrx. what a pain. your right about all the fasteners! I had the bottom of a pretty big parts tray completely covered. There are like 30 including all the plastic ones. nice jorb on the piping though DIY owns!

really? explain to me. What I saw in the diagram/write up was the air flow "direction" or something like that being a lot shorter/easier for a TMIC.

it is shorter and easier yes, however, i read in a mag article, and from personal experience of tuning wrx's with both upgraded TMIC and FMIC's, the upgraded TMIC's offer little to no improvement in cooling effect over stock! i'll try to figure out which magazine the article was in, but it was dyno tested..

Wheras the FMIC's do wonders, but you do have a small lag penalty, but it diminishes when you use a EJ25 motor

A lot of TMIC suffer from heatsoak. If you look at the Rally EVO's and Scooby's most of them have converted to FMIC with a ducted hood because it offers better cooling. The main reason for using a TMIC was damage protection from debris and minor wrecks.

i was going to say. fmic ownz tmic except for the wrx where you have like 50ft of piping so it adds a little more lag.

It looks to me like the pipes go under the foglights.

Nice install...what kinda FMIC is that??

For WRX's, when you upgrade the turbo, the TMIC is good, but most of them usually put on a FMIC. There are some good-sized TMIC...but i guess it depends on the person and how much power they want.

The APS FMIC lets you keep the fog's, and same w/ the TurboXS i think.

Shorter/Easier isn't always the best. That's like saying running open header is the best in all cases, when in fact, it can cause reversion and you will lose power. Heat mount, err i mean, Top mount isn't nearly as efficient at cooling for many reasons... one, the high pressure around the scoop area of the hood causes air to flow away from the scoop, as well as aerodynamically there isn't much air volume either. Not to mention the obvious simple physics that heat rises, and the damn thing is sitting on top of the engine. Personally I think it's a shitty design.

Definitely a good upgrade, nice work. Jinx, the wrx looks good man.

well if u can afford the $1500 or so for a FMIC then go for it but those on a budget, a TMIC will do just fine. they are 11/12 sec WRx running with stock TMIC.

i prefer the bigger TMIC myself along with VF34.

its all about preference.
