where should egt be before driving
Are you guys running both an EGT gauge and a AF gauge?
My understanding is that EGT is a good secondary reading of how rich or lean the motor is running at WOT. 850-900C being ideal, 925-1000C too lean, and temps below 800C rich. I guess the question is what does EGT tell you when not operating at WOT?

I agree with this. I've run an EGT gauge for the last 3 years and never got around to getting a wideband. Seems like the EGT tells me jackshit if I don't know what the afr's are at.

Could be wrong but even if your air/fuel is right your timing can cause your motor to run hot. In this case egts are beneficial. But yes I run both egt and air fuel. But I would not buy an egt guage b4 buying a wideband.
But lets not tun this into a debate of whether an egt is worthless. Keep it on temps.
