When is it necessary to buy axles?
Is there a spefic horsepower that poeple have found the stock axles to reak at, or is it more of a problem just with slicks. I really dont want to buy new driveshop axles if I dont need to. Thanks

Sorry, I posted then searched.
My bad! It seems like if you have anything that engages really rough (3/4 puck clutch) they will break. Anyone know of any smooth engaging clutches?

its necessary when you break one...
anything over 300whp it would be a good idea to have some spare stockers laying around when you go to the track

i've been told that the stock ones should handle up to 220 WHP when launching at the track. though for how long they last depends on how often and whether or not you're using slicks of some kind. the slicks get wreck axles quick as can launching at 4 or 5K often. driveshaftshop axles are nice if you have the need to upgrade.

I read a couple of posts by ninesecrx and he said he was making some nasty power w/ slicks and OEM axles w/o snapping problems, anyone have any other or similiar opinions?

axles will break because of bad driving, harsh clutch engagement, bad suspension that cant put power down/sends all power to one side, wheel hop, too lall of slicks etc. Run stock axles, keep spares around just in case and if u start to break them frequently upgrade.
I ran stock gsr axles in my car making over 550whp and I have a friend with a race car making that power as well with stock axles and never broke his either. Just depends on how the car is driven and how its setup. I used to break the diffs. before I would break an axle.
i never broke any yet, i was pushing about 300 whp outta my R and on slicks launching at 7k+ and still on the stocks. 2seasons worth of racing on em so far and a **** load of daily driving .
if you pre-load the clutch, they will not break.pre-load the clutch meaning do not put your foot on the floor.let it out until right before it engages and then let it go.try to let the pedal follow your foot, not just snap it.i broke about 5 sets before i was told this.

Wow I didnt think I'd get so many replies, usually after I post the thread "mysteriously" dies
Thanks for the info! and we'll see how long the stockers last.

my buddy ran stock axles with a clutch masters twin disc with stock axles too. Then he put a 26 tall tire on and upgraded to dss stage 3's and has had no problems either.
