Default what's the difference with turbos to get torque?

ok i'm just wondering something about turbos. I know someone with pretty close to 300 hp with only about 180 torque. then i've seen people on here that have only about 220 hp with about 170 torque. Is it because the turbines are different or is it the tuning or what?

Also depends on which motor your talking about. The B-Series non-vtec will most likely get higher torque numbers than say a B16....Take my Mr2 motor or the 4G63 motor out of the turbo Eclipses for example; our motors generally make more torque than hp numbers. Stock both come with 200hp and 200 lb/ft of torque. The 4G63 motor I think has ~5-10hp difference than my motor, but I'm just using it as an example. My car (stock) gets full torque at 3200rpm whereas I have a 7200rpm redline, so the car has plenty of torque.

Torque and HP are related by a simple ratio.

turbos add torque across the rpm band, HP is usually a peak number quoted and is rpm dependant.

I forgot the ratio, but torque is what makes your car accelerate, HP is just a reflection of increased torque at certain rpms.

For example: Put a header on your car and the HP goes up, right? Thats because the Header allows slightly more torque at high rpms which translates to a HP number. 10 HP at 8000 rpms is a tiny torque increase.

Personnally, anyone who says 300 HP and 180 ft-lbs of torque is wasting your time. If he says 300 HP at 5000rpm and 180 ft-lbs of torque at 1800 rpm, I am impressed.

HP and torque numbers are useless without the corresponding rpms at which the peak value occurs. Who cares if you get 300HP at 9000 rpm, how often do you drive at that rpm? Waste of your time.

Thats what sucks about my b16. Peak torque at 7k, and HP at 7.6k....how often am I up there? Alot if I want to go fast. Hopefully the turbo should help me in that department.

waste of time.....****..i dont think so..
i think MOST people here are not looking for LOW END torque.you want that..you shouldve bought a mustang.not a honda! with most honda motors...high end power is what its all about..****.id love to have 300 hp at 9000 rpm!

so more or less what everyone is saying is hp doesen't mean anything. But how do you get more torque from a turbo. Is it the tuning, the parts that the kit has or what. When i get a turbo kit i want to have as much torque as possible and i want to find out how

buy a mustang if you want hella torque!!!!!!
or do a b18 swap(maybe you have it stock) or b20!
your NOT going to get MAD torque unless you go with NOS.
its not the really the turbo kit that determines the torque(wll sorta) its your motor..what motor do you have?

Couldn't have explained it any better.

Hp = torque x RPM/5252

Horsepower and torque are just an equation apart from each other. The only variant is revolutions per minute, so the car with 300 hp and 180 ftlbs of torque is indefinitely making his power at high rpms, such as 8000 or so...
