Default what went wrong!!! help blown motor????

ok heres the deal. 96 integra LS 65 shot zex. Guy races shifts into third loses all/most power. engine has a tapping sound like a valve and a little bit of smoke. one of the plugs #3 is covered in oil. Car will idle with a bit of gas but has no power. Car burnt oil and smoked when reaced before nos and motor has 90,000 mile. ok.
1: bent valve. this gives it the loud tapping noise, but where is the oil coming from on the spark plug
2: Toasted rings in cyl 3 give the oil but where is the noise from?
any ideas?
My money is on the valve cause of the noise but where would the oil be from?

The oil on the plug had to come from somewhere. I'm not an engine builder but it usually means you fried the rings. What kind of engine management?? If fuel for some reason gets cut while you are spraying you are in trouble. I wouldnt rule out a valve, but for oil to get on the plug you would have to blow a valve seal and bend a valve to have a ticking noise....The simplest explanation usually tends to be the correct one. To be sure, you need to take the head off and inspect things. Hope that helped a little

what went wrong....well there is no way to tell without pulling the thing apart.

but your chances are pretty much in this order

burnt a valve.. one of the exhaust valves will have taken on a pac-man shape. cause from valves that dont have adequate contact patch with the seat, {ie high mileage} excessive cylinder temp etc etc.. or detonation

broke ring land..detonation looks like someone beat the edge of the piston with a ball peen.

burnt hole in piston. once again cylinder temps get high. long periods of boost/nos can actually overheat the piston {high egt} it will be concave in the middle. of the hole is ragged and broken think severe detonation.

look at your plugs. keep your eye on the white part around the electrode. the color of that {used to be white part} will tell you what happened. look for flecks of silver {aluminium}

well he has zex plugs so theres not much white to start with. but yes its covered in oil. his gonna pull the head today. its just that tapping noise that gets me. see when my turbo motor blew the rings were fried on #3 cly but there was no metal to metal taping. waht could casue that besides a valve?
