Default WHat do you guys do with oil and filter?

Do you guys fill up your oil filter with fresh oil before installing? I've always been taught to always fill up the oil filter with turbo cars from the factory. On our turbo hondas, I've tried half way and it still spills. I've also tried no oil at all and they've ran just fine. SAme with some DSM's

What do you guys do?

This makes it much easier to not spill... and I fill it up, this thing takes almost a quart on its own.

The filter relocate kit, engine block-off plate and -10 lines came from Summit, the oil cooler grid is from racerpartswholesale.com
All of it can be bought from anywhere.

Paul, I was taught by a very very good Honda mechanic to fill the filter up with oil, so I always do.

If you pull the ecu fuse and crank it until the oil light goes off then it'll do the same thing w/o making a mess. It's just a matter of getting oil pressure up before starting.

thanks for the tip Tony. I didn't want to spend money on a relocation kit or a front mount oil cooler

I don't have part numbers, I did it months ago.
20x1.5 fits the landing on the block
the filter mount comes with 3/4x16. You use a Fram PH8A or equivelant (its for a Ford V8) I think you can also use a PH16, which is a shorter version of the PH8.

i filll it halfway and never spill it
u have to pour in oil, then angle the filter and keep turning it around, until the filter sucks all the oil into the filter material

ford ph8 is the old inline 6. also, if you want a smaller filter dimensionally, the filter for the toyota 22r fits as well.

Yep. Fill it half way and let the filter element soak up the oil. Never spills for me.

I just take the ecu fuse out and crank it till the oil light turns off like Tony said. 100% oil pressure right off the bat is always a good thing. Where I work, the emchanics just put the empty filter on. and crank ti voer and let it idle for 5 secs or till the oil light turns off then rechecks oil. as you should always after doing oil changes anyways.

does it really matter? its not like you're going to have any oil inside the filter if you let it the car sit for a while.. half a day is probably enough to have oil filter completely dry.. so what do you do then? remove it and refill with oil everytime before startup?

I fill it up half way and don't have any mess whatsoever. Just like some post above.

Remove old filter, make sure the o-ring came off with it. Install new filter. Nothing special for me.

I know it's a good practice to fill the filter, but I never do. I checked my gauge after my last oil change - it only took about 2.5 seconds to build pressure. That doesn't seem like a problem since the engine is only idling for those two seconds. Plus there is always residual oil sitting on the bearings from the last run, so it's not like the engine is really going to "starve".

Having said that, my roommate *swears* that he spun a bearing on his old camero by not filling the filter first... I don't believe him though. I think he built a crappy motor.
