Default wastegate dump resonator

Some ppl complain that the wastegate sound is annoying at times. And others say that running your wastegate dump back into the exhaust may cause back pressure and may probably be sacrificing HP.

A friend told me that an old porsche brought a resonator in the wastegate dump to reduce the roudy noise it produces...

Does anyone make these? I think its a pretty cool idea thats worth giving a shot for the guys out there, including me, that sometimes find the wastegate to be annoying.

want some feedback HT. Thanks

how much room do you have to work with? what wastegate are you using?

I love the sound when the wastegate opens

Atmospheric dumps can be annoying at times and you may be onto something w/ the resonator, but as mentioned above, it all depends on how much space you have.

I know a while back there was a write-up about recirc dumps and the effects on backpressure, but not only do i not know where it is, i also can't offer any viable input on the subject.

for more help

bump...well i mean im not talking about a regular resonator used in a 3 inch exhaust. im talking about something about 1.5inch ....i mean i would like to get in contact with ppl that actually make these resonators and have a talk with them...

like i said some ppl love the sound, others dont... and others just like it at times...

so ill do some research.... if not ill see what i can create on my own...i think it would sell lol...

but feedback does help

how big is the diameter of an average motorcycle muffler inlet...

bump for some input...I know on sometypes of manilfolds iand depending on the locationof the wastegate it mightbe hardto implement my idea..but perhapson most log maifolds it might not be hard

You can always recirculate the WG further downstream of the exhaust to reduce exhaust back pressure near the turbo/exhaust ports.

I've seen guys route their WG into the exhaust after the cat and just before the muffler. At the section of exhaust which the WG is plumbed in, the exhaust pipe size was stepped up a notch. For example, I've seen guys plumb their WG just before the muffler and they ended up running a 3.5" muffler. This keeps the noise down and still reap the benefits of WG dump.

On the topic of wastegate dump resonator, my turbo IS300 also runs a resonator on the WG dump tube. Although my WG uses a 2.0" dumptube, so I am running a typical 2" resonator. It really keeps the weedwacking/harsh down to a minimum It's not a Honda, but you get the idea

Any muffler should work... with some fabrication of course. The guy in the mag used a Yoshimura muffler and routed it over the hot hide of the intercooler pipe and dumped it through the bumper near his driver side wheel well.

route it back into the exhaust AT AN ANGLE (45*) and you will be fine, just dont T it in

That would be the easiest thing to do..instead of trying to find a 1.5" resonator.

I smell it every day mixed with the lovely odor of crankcase vapors. It can't be healthy. The only time I don't smell it is with the windows up and the a/c on recirculate.

that sucks...ive heard of ppl running the dump all the way near the tire so that the rotating tire helps push away the gases

Ohh dont be such a baby...You drive a turbo honda..Smelling a little exhaust every now and then is not going to hurt you.
Just recirculate the dump into the exhaust..It makes a minimal amount of backpressure if any at all if its recirculated right..Like with a 45* angle.

Will you even have room to stick a resonator on there?

I think its a good idea but i also think, with a properly sized wg and pipping, you shouldn't have a problem with back pressure. Also if you are concerned about vapors, then you definitely have to plumb it back in. Even a resonator wont fix that issue.
