WARNING: SSAUTOCHROME, XSPOWER, ETC.

These parts are confirmed garbage. You are getting less than your money's worth when you buy this stuff.

There is no reason to create a thread asking about these parts. I'm sure you were really excited when that ebay search found you a $600 turbo kit, but alas there are no free lunches.

Feel free to post links to threads explaining the quality of these parts, but do not turn this into a debate as I will delete those posts.

Finally, thank you. This will prolly reduce the amount of posts in this forum by half......actually people who are stupid enough to ask about ssautocrap ect. are probably also too stupid to look at a sticky at the top of the page https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emdgust.gif http://images.honda-tech.com/set1//smile/emcrook.gif

I bet people will still be asking though...

Dont forget about YZ Power and OBX (most of OBX's stuff anyway) are garbage aswell

I had a SSautochrome manifold, cracked several times and they did not fix nor replace it. My buddy bought a OBX oil pan for h22a4 and none of the bolt holes lined up on the pan or the pickup - very far off.
One of my buddys is running a ssautochrome turbo right now, he likes it (as of right now) also there intercoolers seem okay.

I would highly reccomend staying away from these companys.

Are these just the manifolds that we're talking about? or are the turbos, wastegates, bov's etc. all garbage as well? because ssautochrome sells these also

the last thing we need is another thread of people bashing stuff with no evidence. I think this thread should be limited to posts of EVIDENCE of why these products are bad. otherwise its all just speculation and bandwagon and personally (i know theyre shit, but) I wouldnt be satisfied with that if i came on the board with questions about it.

here is my contribution, to those who are thinking about buying an XSpower or whatever turbo, please visit this thread:

A low price is hard to resist...a friend who's dropping lots of cash doing a jdm almost-ef9 style crx (NEW itr head, NEW ctr cams, etc) is seriously looking into these parts.

Nobody would buy pistons or rods that have the same questionable quality as their moanifolds, turbos, fmics & such. Just because it's outside of the motor doesn't mean it can't blow it up or break.

o'malley_808 07-29-2005 09:38 PM

Im confused though because i can see the manifolds cracking etc. as a result of poor construction and not of a cast design or whatever the cause. But why would the turbos that they sell which ssautochrome has, claims to have garrett internals with wet floating bearings. How can these items be deemed poor if they are from one of the leading manufacturers...garrett?

.RTErnie 07-29-2005 09:43 PM

Re: (o'malley_808)

you tell me how you can tell if its a garrett wheel. I'd say they're full of shit.

Im currently in the process of buying some chinese turbos to sell. There are 2 different companies in china that I know of that sell turbos. One company sells high quality parts and the other sells poor cheap quality same company that ssautochrome gets their parts from. They know the stuff is junk but they dont care.

Well here is my input...

I'm not the normal "band wagon" guy that goes along with what someone else says. I'd rather test it myself just incase that other person is a retard and shouldnt be working on cars. I learn from my mistakes. Slow Learner some times. right jar?

most of these items would also end up being resold for almost the original price. so I havent had much loss on any older item i didnt need anymore.

eat your heart out, this is all stuff I'VE used personaly or a local good friend. I'VE been apart of each of the following. none of this is hear say.

Lets make this thread more, "TECH" related concidering this is honda "TECH" related site. If you have a personal story, post it. don't keep replying with .. "yEaH dUdD, OBX suck'a A fAt coCk'a" . That would make this thread just as much of a waste of space as all of the "is my ssauto turbo good" treads.

"THIS IS A STICKY TO HELP REDUCE USELESS CLUTTER, KEEP IT THAT WAY"

wastegates, I've compaird a 37mm to my friends tial. they seemd to be the same in and out other than logo's. Ive ran a 37mm for 2 years on my inlinepro mani w/ no problems, no creepin, so far. lol

Turbos, Ive seen several go bad in less than 200-300 miles, the ones marked xspower. But i tried out the xs T70 and it seemed to of been well worth it for the 5 months of use. full boost at 4,500 w/ a b20.

Re: (jar)

My cumulative experience with SSAC:

1) Bought a "Stone Mountain Racing" TD05 turbo. When I received it, the bolt holes for the studs looked really poor. I tried to install the studs anyway and broke the turbine housing into 3 pieces. I received a full refund.
Quality https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif
Service https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

2) I ran a SSAC D-series manifold (modified as a top mount with a Kia Mi-Tech head flange), unbraced for over a year. The only crack that developed was on one of the primaries and I blame my welding on that one. I ran a flex pipe and a 0.48/0.42 internally-gated T3. This is one of the lightest T3's and I cannot vouge for the quality of the wastegate flange on the manifold. I still have the manifold. Switched to a log manifold.
Quality neutral
Service neutral

3) Bought a couple SSAC V-band kits. These kits come with a pair of machined flanges and a V-band for less than most companies charge for just the clamp. My complaints: THe V-bands I received weren't the same ones shown in the auction. They were really thick steel and I thought it was going to be a PITA to weld them on the exhaust. Additionally one of the flanges had a tapered ID (for some reason) and the other flange had a continuous ID. I emailed them about this and they were really rude about it.

But as it turns out the flanges were fine. They were easy to weld onto my exhaust and I still use them. I ended up using the tapered flanges together and the straight flanges together.

Quality https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif
Service https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif

4) Bought the SSAC "Nissan T25 flange kit". Came with a lot of flanges for the price. But the flanges turned out to be cast stainless steel and the surfaces were not machined flat. I had to cut them flat at school. They were still easy enough to weld, though.

Quality https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif
Service neutral

Ok well here are my inputs:

SSAC Old Style Manifold:
On my buddies Del Sol GSR Turbo it actually held up. To the day he sold it, i never saw it crack. Also so JDM S1eeper's manifold hold up also.

SSAC New Manifold:
I ran this manifold, it lasted about 4 days i believe and the wastegate flange seperated. I had all welds removed from the manifold and re-welded. We will see how this works out.

Quailty: https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif

XS Power Turbo:
Well I am mixed, that same GSR Turbo Del Sol and JDM S1eeper both have had good expirience with these turbo's but they broke theirs in also, my turbo i didnt break in, and i also had excessive crankcase pressure from 2 blown oil rings which i believe didnt allow the turbo to let the oil return to the oil pan as freely as it should have.

OBX LSD:
Well i am the guy who owns the diff JDM S1eeper spoke of, and while alot of people have the axle sticking and fucking their shit up problems, mine stuck, but the reasoning doesnt seem to stay in line with that of other peoples problems. i had the driver side axle literally twist inside the 1/2 shaft. But Advanced Autoparts replaced the axle for free, so i am good.

B series OBX oil pan, I'm currently running one of these on my Built LS setup. The pan looks just like the moroso on my buddy's race engine, great looking part. One thing though, you need to make sure you seal all gaskets and fittings or it will have leaks. Funny thing is the moroso on my buddy's, leaks the exact same. If you get one of these, like i said. Seal all fittings and gaskets. Oh yeah, this oil pan came with a oil pick up, no fitment problems either.

First off, to everyone. sorry I keep on reposting.
But here i go..

I just read your 2 links,

About the OBX fuel rail

So first off, the fuel inlet fitting broke off. Just look at it - look how off center the bore is - no wonder it broke. And the fitting isn't even stainless steel. It's electroplated brass.

First of all... I feel you... BUT, how did it break? Accidents happen, shit I broke my InlinePro fuel rail the "exact" same way. And about the inlet nipple. What about stainless? Most inlet nipples Ive seen are made out of some sort of alluminum or brass. For example, My inlinepro nipple was made of an alluminum just like the obx peice. Main thing is, Don't beat the rail around lookin for something wrong with it. Its made to supply fuel to the injectors, not as a baseball bat. Your right thou, it shouldnt have broken easy (did it?) You should have asked for a replacement nipple. I'm sure they would have sent you one. Like i said, this same thing happend on my inlinepro rail, I didnt bash them. Just told stan what happend and he was surprized but gave me a new one to replace it. (good guy)

The rail doesnt have to have a perfect, expencive style painjob. Like you said it isnt like an AEM, because you hit it on the head, it "isnt" an aem, its an OBX. Aftermarket fuelrails are all overkill bling peices anyways, that rail is "MORE" than capible of supplying 43.5psi - 70psi of rail pressure to your injectors. What was wrong with it? was it scared? damaged? If so i would have returnd it or asked for a new one. If not then why say its made of a sodacan? Alluminum is alluminum, it doesnt have to be titanim, stainless, gold or platinum. Your wrong, I dont think they make the rails from "crap" that would stink.. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

LOL, you paid $10 for it and you'd rather have an overpriced one w/ a sticker? Id return the AEM, make the OBX work, or resell it to a ricer and use that nice chunk of change on a tune, gas money, vacation, porn. Something more useful. I've seen A LOT of setups running stock rails w/ 600+whp cars. Rails are for bling in normal applications. (yea i got the inlinepro for bling https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif But ended up selling it and went Uberdata w/ cash to spare)

Cliff Note: This can happen to any rail company's rail. Just be careful when installing. Sorry about your luck

------------

About the obx header
I wont say anything about the OBX header deal, that sucks dude. I wouldnt of waisted my time modding it. They have a number, next time use it. I would have returned it w/o thinking about it. Sorry about yout luck on that header bro.

The XS Power is basically the same company, most of their turbos rock XS POWER on the compressor housing. Other then that its still SSAC.

werd, i know their the same company.. i just heard that their reinforcing their shit now.. and that they have a lifetime warrenty on their manifolds so every week you break one they'll send one out the week before so you get it the exact day the other one breaks https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif

no problems with that, but people should know better than to buy things like a manifold and a turbo from them. there has been like 8798759875 posts about them breaking. no need to ask if its ok to buy them.

my review of OBX B5 mufflers (N1 style)

2.25 inlet, 3.5 tip

i had this muffler on my car for about good 3-4 years. never had any problems or issues. but then again, how can you go wrong with a universal muffler?

well, i've seen my friend's HKS muffler's inner core (insulation?) slowly but surely squeeze thru broken weld inside the muffler.

noticed good gains, not as loud nor was it ricey sounding at all. it was just really deep, deep, boomy sound. none of the rattling/bleeping sound up top either.

so much better than megan N1 style muffler that my friend bought.

well i like ssautochrome manifold it has done me good. I'm trapping 131 mph in the 1/4 on it. I must say they have always done me right. And all the cars we have at our shop. I've been 11.5 on that manifold on low boost. I've been running 22 psi for a few months now. Then i had a sleeve crack on my b series motor. As soon as my gsr gets back from machine shop I will be putting my ssautochrome manifold back on and be back hopefully hitting a 10 second pass finally. The manifold are holding up daily driven on 15 psi...Just my experience guys...
