Valve spring recommendations for ITR cams
My head was just inspected and they found a bent valve and a cracked titanium retainer. I was using Inline Pro valve springs and retainers for about 6 years/60,000 miles or so. I was going to reuse the valve springs with some Brian Crower chromoly retainers and manley valve keepers, but the bent valve has me worried that the springs should be replaced.
Supertech is pretty cheap, but I've heard mixed reviews about them. I don't plan to rev very high, though. I think the stock ITR redline is 8400, so that's probably what I'll stick to. It will be tuned on pump gas, so I won't be running really high boost.
Ferrea is the best, but they're pricey. Supertech has two different part numbers:
spr-h1002d -- Supertech Dual Valve Springs, All Motor and Low Boost Turbo -- Most Popular
Will Fit B Series Vtec. B17a, B16a, B18c, B18c1, B18c5.
Outer Spring -- 29.05mm OD -- 21.85mm ID
Inner Spring -- 20.50mm OD -- 15.50mm ID
70 lbs seat pressure -- 70 lbs @ 33.50mm
14.00mm Max Net Lift
19.50mm Coil Bind
10.00 lbs/mm Rate
__________________________________________________ ____________
spr-h100dr -- for higher boost turbocharged and large lift all motor applications.
Will Fit B Series Vtec. B17a, B16a, B18c, B18c1, B18c5.
Outer Spring -- 30.20mm OD -- 22.20mm ID
Inner Spring -- 22.20mm OD -- 16.80mm ID
85 lbs seat pressure -- 85 lbs @ 33.50mm
15.00mm Max Net Lift
18.50mm Coil Bind
12.90 lbs/mm Rate
Which one of these would be the best for my application? I realize that one says "low boost," but their definition of low might be less than 10psi. What about Brian Crower springs, since I already have their retainers? Any other recommendations would be appreciated, thanks.

I've never herd mixed reviews on the supertechs, I would choose the lighter spring for the ITR cams.
Keep in mind stiffer springs will wear parts faster.

ive been using the 85lb supertechs with itr cams for about 7000 miles havent noticed anything excessive. rev limit is 9000 at the track.
im sure you will be fine with the 70lb springs from everything ive read doing research

Thanks for the help. That's exactly what I needed to know. Does anyone know how the 70lb Supertechs compare to stock ITR springs? Are they a definite upgrade?

Well..... there used to be data here.

Ill see what I can dig up.
I can say that the supertech 70lb springs are better than used ITR springs for sure, cheaper and more capable than new ITR's.

Thanks for the link. I was trying to track down someone that had re-hosted those images last night. I wonder why he was banned? I wouldn't consider used springs, by the way.

He was banned due to on going conflicts with the management of the site. Even if he wasn't, he's more or less walked away from this site and the scene in general and wouldn't be around if he wasn't banned.
The spr-h1002d springs would be the ones you wanted and they are far more capable than ITR springs are.

It just seems strange that the past couple of years or so, I come across an increasing amount of users with a high post count who have been banned.
Anyway, thank you for the verification. I'm going to order the spr-h1002d springs.

I don't know, can you? Why wouldn't you be able to? The only ones that get slightly picky about mixing parts are the Fererra (or however its spelled) valve train components; all the cheaper ones are like a mix and match grab bag. Next time though, create a new thread so we don't have to waste time seeing if other information is important to know or not.
