turbo spec's-101 please help!
 

this is going to be a long question,sorry but here go's;i dont think of my self as dumb,just not as well experenced as some others.while i do understand most everything there is about cars,especialy honda's,there are a few things ive never been shown or tought,mainly turbo stuff.i know how they work and all the basic stuff,but all these spec numbers just confuse me.like ar. and t3 housing vs t4 housing,trim size,bla bla bla.so if theres anyone who can explan all these numbers and how they relate to each other,in understandable terms( I dont have a enginering degree) i would greatly appreciate it.......now if anyone needs to know suspension stuff I can help!..thanks https://honda-tech.com/forums/images.../h-emblem1.gif

okay, I'll write a quick one and on most of the T3 and T3/4 since it is most popular ones..

The basic,

Any turbo have 5 major components.
- Compressor housing
- Compressor wheel
- center cartridge
- Turbine housing
- Turbine wheel

Compressor and Turbine housings are measure in A/R which stands for Area / Radius
A/R is calculated by taking the area of the circle off of ANY point in the housing Divided by the length of the center of THAT circle to the center of the compresor housing (center of the blade). All of these numbers will be the same as the area of the circle gets larger as it moves farther away from the center of the turbo. The larger the A/R number, the larger the housings

Compressor wheel for T4 family are divided between 2 major categories,

Wheel Physical Characteristic Types
T04E 6 sets of blades 46 , 48, 50, 54, 57, 60 trim
T04B 7 sets of blades V, O, P, Q, 60-1 and etc

I may have missed a trim, forgive me...https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif The trim are measures by taking the diameter of the exducer (smaller wheel) of the compressor wheel in mm.

Turbine wheel are measures in stages, the larger the stages, the larger the wheel

From Stage 1, Stage 3 and Stage 5.

So for example if someone quoted you a turbo specs,

T3/4E .60AR 57 trim, .63 AR Stage 3 on hot side..

This means,

T3 center cartridge
T04E housing .60A/R
57 Trim wheel, the exducer of the compressor wheel is 57mm accross
.63AR housing on the turbine side
Stage 3 turbine wheel.
