Which turbo should i use?
I have two different turbo's. One of them is a very small turbo from a mitsubishi eclipse that was just rebuilt. The other is an ebay .50 turbo. If the ebay turbo is a better choice for my application than i am going to get it rebuilt with garret internals. This is going on my 98 integra with a completely stock b16, looking to run around 8 pounds. Will the small dsm turbo be fine? or should i use the bigger ebay one? What are the pros and cons of each? Thanks
what year mitsubishi was the turbo off of? if its a 1989-1994 with a manual trans its a 14b and i would go with that one, but i would run 10 pounds instead of 8. but thats just me tho
If pushed to over 30psi, it MAY work. at 8psi, you're just wasting time and energy. Hondas unlike DSMs do not like backpressure, and exigent heat at all. That turbo isn't even CLOSE to being efficient to make that kind of power on a b16, not to mention the "modifications" that have to be performed in order to make a $30 turbo fit on any manifold that a Honda can use.
*I think I just gave myself Hives for saying this * *gulp*, but if you MUST use either one of them use the ebay one until funds permit to get a better turbo altogether. Getting garrett "internals" may not fit into that cartridge during a rebuild because there are situations in which sometimes those parts will not physically fit in the crappy cast housings that they come with.
Or you can do the prudent thing and just wait a bit, until you can get the right components to make everything fit smoothly.
Just because you got a turbo "on the cheap" or "for free" doesn't mean its a good idea to use it. Ask yourself this question; if its so awesome, why would someone basically give you a free DSM T25 or 14b? Answer: because they found something better than that POS too.. ;-)

It won't. We used to use that combination back in 98. It was skiddish at best, before the adapters and most 14b turbos were beat to absolute **** to a point where they were just as reliable as an ebay turbo. As a former DSM owner of a 1GA and a 2G, I'd say forget BOTH turbos and get something more usable period.
