Default turbo help, im sick of this crap.

ok, if you read dlplayboys post im having similar problems. car ran great for a while, but the past month its going downhill. i have a type r, only running 4.5psi. so, my car has been having good days and bad, but now its always bad. sometimes the car kind of surges, like the boost is coming on and off, but it feels like that even when im not in boost, and the boost gauge is holding steady at 4.5 when i hit it. i took it out on the freeway tonight, and its having trouble climing into the high RPM ranges, it goes really slow, and i dont think VTEC is hitting, or it works in little pulses. oil is fine, and i even changed it today. compression is 160 across the board. my in-line fuel pump was making some odd noise, and i thought that might be it, but now i see the compression is so low im wondering if something serious is wrong. my plugs are super clean, and the A/F gauge shows a little rich under boost. i havnt been pounding or racing the car at all. im at a loss people, help me.

are you using stock cam gears? I suggest trying a dyno run.

ive got skunk 2 cam gears and i havnt tuned them yet. i was going to go hit the dyno saturday, but now my car feels like a stock civic HX, and i dont really know if the shop in tucson can help a whole lot. i dont think its the gears though, because it ran fine for a month with them and all went to crap recently. nothing has changed on the car between running good and running slow. could i be having ignition problems? im working massive hours right now and can only do one test a day on the car.

forgot to mention....no codes at all, never had the check engine light come on since ive had the car. (well except at start up) hey, i noticed also that my oil pres. sensor(i guess thats what it is, its right by the oil filter) had fallen off, i dont know exactly when, but should that give me some kind of code or oil light?

i was looking at the DRAG site, and they said bad check valves might cause sluggishness, guess i can look into it and hope for the best. cmon everybody pray to the engine gods for me.

Compression is only 160 across the board???????? Something is wrong. It should be WAY higher thatn that.

Either you did the compression test wrong.... or you have a seriously fucd up motor.

Have you plugged that oil sending unit back on? Hmmmm that should have enabled a code......or better yet I think that it should have made the oil light come on. Try swapping a distributor with a friend. Also, check your map sensor as well.

it was my first comp. test, ill do it again tomorrow morning to make sure. i dont see how i could have done that much damage on 4 psi, i hope i just screwed the test up. i think i can convince my friend to let me swap in his dist. and wires for a run around the block. thanks everybody for the help, and keep throwing ideas at me. im sick of driving my 800$ beater *** duct taped together 92 eclipse around.
oh yea, i stuck the sensor back on, but it doesnt fit really good, and will probably fall off again. this is where the shop plumbed the oil line to the turbo, and i guess the sensor isnt locking onto the little fitting.

What are you using to fool the map sensor?

i think people will offer every suggestion to get your car running right.

but the fact lies in with the compression numbers. run the test again and let us know what it comes out with. if they are still running 160 across the board, your only explanation is the motor.

are you perhaps running lean. though your guage reads rich, you say your plugs are super clean???

I cant help you with your problem, but I will throw in that when the oil idiot light is unplugged, it doesnt throw a code... I tried in my car... I assume the sensor sends no voltage untill it triggers the light?

as far as your problem goes, I would definately recheck your compression, and you may try resetting the ecu... I doubt it would help, but you never know!

oh yeah... change your sparkplugs too! mine go bad all the time and my car starts running shitty... I even carry a spare set in the car just in case...

Yes, I can also confirm the oil pressure switch does not matter. I had mine unhooked for months.

Compression numbers do not sound good. At about 8.8:1, I get solid 155's. You should be in the 200's. Check into this first. If you are unsure of the correct procedure to check compression, check with someone first.

high end does suck on these drag 3 kits. i think its all tuning man.

as for the oil leak on the oil pan weld... i just used some cold weld compound and it helped it alittle. the first time i did it... i didnt drain the oil. the second time.. i took out the oil.. reapplied the cold weld and its holding up fine. just have it rewelded if you need to. its a few bucks.

i also get sluggish high end... it feels as if i hit the gas and as it climbs past 5-6000 rpms its not really boostin as hard as it feels at 3-4000 roms. anyone experience this with their drag kit?

integrated... ACME do good work man... i think its alot more of tuning and all the other turbo bullshit that takes into effect. i already called them to tell them my problem... but i rather just tackle it on my own.. its the only way im going to learn. know whut i mean?

i also got some fucted up compression readings. but i heard... when you crank the engine when you do the tests... you gotta hold down the gas... and thats whut i didnt do. so im gonna try again. but the test i did a few days ago... i got 150-155 in each cylinder which isnt good either.

It all depends on how much he cranked it while doing the test. If you only crank it a couple times it wont go that high. The good news is that they are all similiar, i seriously doubt you did that much damage on 4.5 lbs as long as your fuel pump is working. I think most likely it is a tuning issue. Many cars on here, including mine are going thru the same crap. Best thing to do is get on the dyno.

Have you tried going to that super kewl guy who you meet about a month ago? I heard he is back from Texas and was asking how your car is running....if you stop by his house and bring a couple of beers, I'm sure with all his vast knowledge of import tuning...maybe he could work out your bugs. I think today he said he was putting a DOHC Del Sol radiator in his hybrid civic, but after that, he was just gonna kick it for a while. Give him a call.

Just an update for integrated109.......He re-did the compression test and cranked it a little longer and got about 185-190 across the board. If you know what might be causing his vtec to act krazy......please post...thanks

WOW.... ummmm, type-r cams are not good for FI. you have cam gears so use them. you need to dial out the overlap of the cams. your boost is just blowing right through the cylinder on your VTEC lobe and not being combusted because of the overlap your NA cams have.

I also suggest replacing your intake cam with a GSR intake cam.

oh yeah, get rid of the in-line fuel pump and get an in-tank Bosch fuel pump.

sorry people, i dont have a computer at the moment so i have to mooch off of other people. i did my compression again, and this time had someone to tell me when it stoped climbing, and i hit about 185 across the board. i also checked my distributor cap and rotor, both are fine, and i checked the voltages at the VTEC solenoid and the switch, all good. i even took the compressor pipe off the T body and drove around the block, and same shiznit, no VTEC action at all. i dont have the oil pressure gauge to check the pressure for the VTEC system. what else could be causing it not to activate? i have no codes, oil, coolant, all good. vacume maybe? oh yea, it idles a little sloppy now too, sounds like it misses a little bit. thanks for the help so far guys.
jack....call me tonight, ill be up late. i gotta pick up girlie from the airport tomorrow, so i have to run around a little today. tried to call tim yesterday, is he out there with you?

Tim should be homehttp://www.speed-factor.com
about your problem.........did you check you domelight? It might need a new bulb....if its bad then your engine will go into limp mode and your VTEC will not engage....also check your wiper blades...same thing if they are dirty....if you want, I can swap out your VTEC type-r and put my non-VTEC LS motor in there :&gt
