Default tuning and boost

just wondering, when one tunes their car, the car obviously runs better and makes more hp. it also increases the longetivity of the motor because you are not running lean or rich. but, if your car was tuned at say 7psi... and you have a boost controller and sometimes like to turn it down, this would in sense be better for the motor because you are boosting less... but because you tuned it at 7psi, wouldn't the motor be at a greater risk at a lower psi, because the settings were thrown off?

not if you have a standalone with separate boost maps, or any fuel management system which alters variables only when it sees boost.
