Timing question?

Would rotating the distributor toward the firewall be retarding or advancing the timing?

If you have the timing light you will know... If you dont have the light how do you know what timing the motor is at???

Retarding the timing is normally turning it toward the front of the car, advancing is towards the firewall, but dont do it without a timing light!
