SOHC Turbo project pics...
I posted some pics of my friends Intercooler a while back, here are some updated photos with the IC piping I did on it...I know the intercooler looks ghetto as hell, but it works for the time being, it was really cheap.( A huge new Spearco is on order)
Anyway, the Motor is a SOHC ZC w/ modified LS rods(yes B series LS rods), Low *** compression JE pistons(can't remember exact compression), DFI management, and a Turbonetics 60-1 HIFI turbo. He haven't gotten any good dyno runs due to an oil leak we had. We fixed the leak and went to the track one day, and had problems with the damn intercooler leaking all the boost, so with slicks that are too damn big, and 3 PSI of boost we ran a 14.8
here at 5800ft. in elevation...Just wanted to see what you boost gods thought of the setup...Yes, we could have gone B series but we wanted to be extremely unique.

Thanks.

you said they are ls rods but on your website you have forged rods, what is it? if i were you i would tilt your in and out tubes on the end tanks of the intercooler. that way you dont have that hard 90 degree angle. y are your numbers so bad no offence. is it the elivation? i live below sea level so i have no idea. i figure a stock crx gutted like that can get better numbers. i dont know, please inform me!!
also sweet project car. looks like alot of fun. and could be fast!!

My business partner does all the website, and he's a turbo/Import novice so the specs are not exact on the website.
If you read the post, he ran the 14.8 w/ only 3lbs. of boost and slicks that are way to big for the car. Yes, the elavation plays a huge role. At sea level it could have been close to a full second faster. So for 3psi of boost, hugely oversized slicks, and no low end power thats pretty damn good...

No it doesn't.. says he has LS rods and forged aluminum pistons.

At that elevation and 3psi, he's barely breaking even! so, it's more like a N/A ZC witha big piece of spinning metal in the way of the intake! What boost are you planning on running, eventually?

We plan on running somewhere between 20 to 25psi when it's all tuned and running well. We're hoping for 10's out of it in the 1/4 mile here at our elevation. We're going to hopefully get to the track again tomorrow.M
I believe we borrowed some 26" slicks initially, everybody kept telling us they were too big. Thats all we had access to so we ran them anyway, now he has some new 22" Mickey Thompson's I believe...

When you get the boost turned up, try some 24.5" slicks. They seem to work great on cars making around 350 or so. They give you a little more gear than the 22s but not as tall as the 26s.
Interesting. I'll be using LS rods, JE pistions, and blockguard on my d16z6.
So how much boost do you guys think I'll be able to handle?
I shooting for 10psi. Maaaaaaaybe 12psi.

Update for you guys:
He got the 22" Mickey's on and a steady(overly safe) 17PSI of boost for now and he's running 12.4's here at our mile high altitude, with practice he thinks low 12's easily. He needs some tuning, a little more boost, and some more seat time and we're thinking low low 11's or high 10's here...we'll see...

PLEEEASE tell me there's a new IC on that thing? The first pictures look like you guys JB weld the endtanks on, which BTW are way too big for that core.
Talk about Ghettofabulous! No wait, that's like beyond ghetto...
Good luck.

Haha, yup way ghetto, and yes JB weld may have been involved
A new Intercooler has been installed as well...We're aiming for around 22psi, maybe up to 25
...
Thanks for the comments...

OMG! i think this is so funny.... people probably look at the slicks and think it will be running single digit numbers and then it pulls off a high 14... not dissing it or anything i just think that is hilarious... and that IC looks ancient heh.

good luck with it, that thing just makes me want to build a race-only car all the more.
