I'm new to the turbo world, but if you have a 4psi spring in there then wouldnt full boost be 4psi?

yep... unless he has a manual boost controller which im guessing he doesnt

also if your building 5psi with a 4psi spring and still building it after it already hit 5 your having some major boost creep issues whether its slow or not

Thats what I was thinking, so actually hes not having problems building boost slowly since it hits 5psi pretty quick and after that its just boost creep.

I changed the spring to an 8.7psi spring and it builds boost alittle faster but not by much?

do a compression check on your motor.... low compression might be the cause of this

The car built boost fine with the internal gate setup hours before I changed to the external gate. So I don't feel it has anything to do with compression.

The internal wastegate flapper is welded shut perfectly as far as I can tell.

The external wastegate piston and seals are perfect as far as I can tell.

Ok let me get this straight here...

You had a 4lb spring before. It built 4lbs quickly then slowly increased after that. Like mentioned before, it sounds like boost creep

You added an 8.7psi spring. Does it now build 8.7psi then continue to creep after that? It just sounds like your MBC doesnt work properly. I really dont see the confusion here. You had a 4psi spring and it built 4psi...exactly what is supposed to happen (without an MBC), then it was just boost creep after that.

Get another MBC and see if that helps, or just run off the 8.7psi spring without the MBC

couldnt youhave just run a boost controller to the internal WG and up the boost that way rather than get an external and welt the internal one?

Okay well first to check the wategate you have to put some pressure in there and see if it leaks..
Now a run down of slow building boost could be.
A bad blow off valve
Cracked exhaust housing
Boost leak in charge pipes

I am currently running off the 8.7psi spring. No MBC.
It boosts quickly to 4-5psi then slowly builds to 9psi, but never goes over 9psi.

How do I check the blow off valve?
If the exhaust housing was cracked wouldn't I hear it?
I already pressured tested the whole system, no leaks.

not really i seen some of those 14b turbos and i always see cracks on the inside and outside very small but still there..if you already pressure tested all the piping then i guess your bov is okay..

are you reusing a gasket? replace the gasket and just make sure everything is nice and tight.
