I still dont understand the reasoning for getting a USED LS block. Keep in mind that LS/VTEC setups have a weakness in the oil pump so you have to upgrade it to a GSR pump. Then you have to run the oil lines for VTEC and tap the head or get the VTEC conversion kit for the LSVTEC.

At that point, you've spent an easy $500-600 on gaskets, lines, pump, etc plus the price of the block.

And in the end you still have a used block that is prone to breaking down since there could be a chance of WORN out piston rings or WORN out bearings.

I still say REBUILT B16.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Go read what I said again, pal.

Clear enough for you?

If you're rebuilding your motor to begin with you have no reason not to buy a new oil pump and water pump anyways, it's cheap insurance and you'd be a fool not to do that. A GE conversion kit is a little over 200 bucks and has everything you need to do an ls/vtec right. In the end he would spend the same or less money after he sells his B16 shortblock to have a much torquier and better motor for the street.

ok how much would it cost to do the ls vtec turbo? arnt guys like putting high compression pistons in? why would i do that if im going turbo? does make much sense putting 8.5:1 pistons in it, or does it?

Re: rebuild b16 or buy new b18b (the.hamburglar)

you can put from 8:1 to 11:1 compression pistons on a block built for turbo.
Its up to you. Most prefer the low compression side to be safer. But if you can tune well, there are plenty of race engines using 10.8:1 flat top pistons on boosted setups.
