Default Question about tuning at a certain psi.

Ok heres my question. Say you dyno tune your car at 5 psi. You know the air/fuel is perfect and all that. Ok, so say you are going down the street and run into a faster car and want to crank the boost just maybe 2 more pounds. Hows does this effect your power/relaiblity? Does everything go out the window?

Can you save settings in the boost controller or stand alone ecu so that you have settings for 5 psi and then for 8 psi?

Also..are there boost controllers where you can set your psi by gears? Say like you want 2 psi in first gear so you dont spin for days, then 4 psi in 2nd gear, then 6 psi in third gear then 8 psi in 4th and 5th? Can this be done?

Sorry for all the questions, but im just trying to learn a bit.

I'm not sure exactly about switching the boost. I know if you use an FMU rising rate you can accomadate for more boost with more fuel. Also I think that the avc-r can change the boost levels in each gear. Not 100% sure but check it out.

Thats why you tune to the highest boost you think you will see.

the A/F ratio - boost relationship is not a linear one.

Tune to the highest boost you will see. If you are running fine at 10 psi boost, then 5 will also be fine. it won't work the other way around.

You can get multiple stage boost controllers with pushbutton switches. usually they are two stage, a low boost stage and a high boost stage.

Low boost for 1st and 2nd and high boost for the higher gears. not sure the models. you have to push the button.

The Profec series has the switching system. You can switch on the fly between two boost levels(Profec B). I have my low at about 7psi and hi at 13psi. I usually switch at the top od second at the track. On the street I switch in the middle of second or top of third. Its all on the fly too. You can bump it down on the fly too.

If you have engine management, you tune 5psi and work your way up to higher boost levels. when you switch back and forth you are already tuned.

yes the AVCR lets you control the boost by the gear as well.
