Default open vs closed deck for street use

i'm planning on purchasing a sleeved motor in the near future and i'm curious about people fealings about closed deck designs on the street. They seem like they will hold more power but do they have a detramental lose in cooling efficiency? I'm planing to break 10s in a street driven DC2, and i dont want to run into cooling problems. the open decks from RS and others seem to be an option but are they capable of holding the power to run mid 10s? I'm figuring i'll need around 500whp in such a heavy car to make my goals. I'm sur ethis has been covered before but my search yielded nothing of value for my question. THe search engine seems a bit limited when more that 1 word is used and rarely is the real question at hand in the title.

Thanks

yes open deck can break into 10s....its been done time and time again...IMO, although there are several sleeving companies, they are all good. a guy i know around my area has a sleeved b18c1 from Golden eagle and he runs 10s. either way, some good sleeving companies
darton
ge
benson
you can search for these sleeves in the ht database and find out many articles

just go to search
click section for 'forced induction'
and check 'archived'

that will bring the best results

the hole closed deck runs hotter is a myth..I have a DART block and daily drive it without any issues at all..I also have over 6 sleeved closed deck block running around my town that I built that have not had cooling issues at all..

if it was that bad would next to all the other car manufactors design there blocks to be closed deck? I think the hole open deck thing has to do with manufactoring cost..

cool now my other question, how big a bore is safe for boost i've heard both 84 and 85. would a 84.5 mm bore be safe for a 500whp car? i'ld rather go 84 but i've found some good deals on 84.5 motors.

83 would be good and still have room for error

it really depends on how you drive the car and how precise the motor's tolerances were built.. with good sleeves and solid rods you should be fine at an 84mm bore at 9:1.. for pump gas, its a proven set-up and many people are manking tons of power on the street using these specs.. i havent seen and 83.5mm pistons on the self anywhere.. so if your at 83mm and mess something up you have to go to 84mm.. i have seen 84mm cyl wall over and over and they look pretty beefy to me.. but outside of 84mm ERL blocks can handle up to a 85mm bore on boost.. and they use some very nice darton sleeves..

I thought that the big argument against closed deck was that because there is metal on the cylinder wall, it heats and cools at a slightly different rate than the rest of the sleeve. . .

Similar to rotor warp. . . maybe I'm wrong - Makes sense to me, but I'm a newb!
