In need of some help on how to get my block back up to a tune-able state
So I about August last year I blew my head gasket on my set up. B20 with a garret t3. At the time I didn't have the space to do the job myself and took it to the only import shop in town (I wish I never did). They resurfaced the head and replaced the head gasket which I don't question. They were supposed to do a pressure test on the head as well. Then they recommended and I proceeded to do a valve job (figured might as well). Initially the car drove but my AFR between 1-2.5k was really low (bottoming out at 10.0 on my aem wideband). The car is tuned on neptune and my afr had always been 14.1-14.5. I considered the head resurfacing throwing the compression off and messing up the tune (nbd). So I stopped driving it and would take it on short runs occasionally (once every month and a half). My afr was better while driving above 2k. Well after moving I took the car on its last run and have come to this. I feel like they didn't perform any work on my valvetrain and am kinda pissed
I should also note my car sounds like a subbies (I'm thinking spark plug fouled from oil)
Looks like oil coming out.
a "valve job" typically just entails cutting the valve seats and valve heads for fresh new surfaces to seal well together. because it gets torn down to do this, new valve seals should always be installed. and guide diameters should be measured to check valve to guide clearance. if clearance is too big, guides should be replaced. if new seals are used on bad guides, it'll damage the seals. if the valve seats are cut with bad guides, they will not cut correctly because the tool uses the guide as its locator. if everything is good, but new seals were not installed, that could easily be an issue.
oh, and shaving the head for straightness will have near zero effect on the tune. just so you know. unless they took a ton of material off, which should only be done if trying to increase compression or if the machine shop screwed up
I was hoping the resurfacing was the issue. My tune was fine before the gasket blew (i coasted a mile to pull over and stop). Ironically they tuned another customers car that same weekend (but they were running hondata and i run neptune). To my knowledge the guides should have been done but i can't find the paperwork. Took it to a shop i will never take it to again. Guess i'll be getting the head worked on and then taking it to the guys that tuned it the first time . Thanks for the response
