Oil cooler mounting -Optimal location JDM ITR Front end

I just Boosted my 98 Itr and I’m having air flow problems to my half size Koyo Radiator. So I’m in the process of moving my oil cooler from the front of my car to the passenger side wheel well so I can make some shrouding to direct air flow to the radiator. So my question is can I mount my oil cooler upside down ( as in the AN port are pointing down)?

No. Although your location is sound, you cannot invert the cooler. It can have the inlet/outlet ports sitting at the top or at a 90* angle. But not inferred as you're describing.

why? The reason I ask is because I been looking at this for days and the best way I think to mount it (not saying it’s the right way) where it will get the best air flow is with it upside down. I could mount it right side up but my intercooler piping is in the way and the an fitting will be hitting the frame rail

Oil pressurization will cause it to back flow. I have airfoil coolers on both of my B-series engines in JDM DC2 and EM1 chassis ( 19 row Earl's & Setrab coolers using Mocal sandwich plates with integrated oil thermostats using -10AN lines.)

Talking from experience. Sorry.

well that suck. I thought I ask because I been doing research and I seen people say yes and no. What’s a airfoil cooler?

I hear upside down is the worst, although my friends 06 didge viper has this stock, an upside down oil cooler no joke.

I mounted mine sideways I hear this is best, feed in the top, return on the bottom.

Where I want to mount mine I have no room to mount it upwards or vertical to maximize airflow. I can mount it either those two was but no air flow will get to the cooler. Will just blow right past it in my opinion. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...171046fc4.jpeg
If mount this way air will flow right past cooler
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...b80e0ad00.jpeg

If I can mount this way which will but the cooler upside down air flow will go right through the cooler and will utilize my air duct I have in my bumper already

Change the location that you are mounting the oil cooler or run a smaller cooler? I boosted my em1 and my oil cooler about the same size as yours is on the right side where the ac condensor used to go.

that’s where I had it mounted but I’m having airflow issues to my radiator and need to build shrouding to direct air to it so oil cool need to be moved

mistype from another device.. I meant air-cooled oil cooler

[QUOTE=jerzey908;51658499]That's a JDM ITR front end. I have a custom bracket angling the oil cooler on the driver's side (U.S.) So that it's facing forward. I cut out one of the lower ducts to allow air flow directly to the cooler. Notice how the inlet/outlet ports are still mainly facing upward.

I see how you did yours but on my bump I already have a j’s racing air duct installed from when I was N/A so I’m trying to utilize it. But my intercooler piping is in the way. I can mount it how I have it in the second pic I post but vertical but I will have to drill a whole in the frame rail for one of the -AN line and I’m trying not to do that. All of this because my half size radiator is not getting air flow and if I can’t fix that problem I’m going to have to squeeze a full size radiator in the car and the oil cooler is definitely going to have to move.

do you have a pic of how it’s mounted with the bumper off?

Not right now. I'll try for one in the coming days.

Can't have it all, man.. J's duct or oil cooler.. Might have to make a choice. .My I/C piping also gets in the way on the passenger side.

it won’t work for me on driver side since that’s where my filter for my turbo is plus intercooler piping. And a pic would be awesome

why not just run a small motorcycle fan on the oil cooler, like off a sv650.

Or you could do this https://jsjbrothers.com/albums/album...9977.sized.jpg :tobes

I just talk to a rep at Mocal and he stated it doesn’t matter which what you mount the cooler. He said you just don’t want to mount it high enough that it will drain back if you plan to mount it downwards.

Alrighty then... I wish you good luck and Godspeed, sir.
