now what supercharger?
ok, ive done a search and found nothing....
it seems for the d series engine that everyone goes JRSC...now i don't even know what else is out there but i've gotten sort of mixed reviews on the whole JRSC setup, and negative about their customer service and warranty.
now what other supercharger setups are out there??!! and how are they? i am really leaning towards SC over turbo but if i'm going to throw down the cash i want to make sure i do it right.

JRSC is the only best option for supercharger.... so thats that Vortech is garbage with only peak/redline hp gains and turbo would be better then that.
Whats your goals for your car? And be DETAILED, otherwise you won't get anything in the way of opinions back from us..... Greddy turbo kit is an option you might wanna look into.... just a thought

ok, this is for my daily driver....
basically i am looking for a forced induction setup that will not completely take the life out of my engine, one that is reliable and requires minimal maintenance (although i know that often pertains to how its used and tuned) plus i don't want to have to buy a bunch of upgrades just to accomodate it, and money is definitely a factor here....
this is for my own personal fun, i probably hit the track maybe once or twice every two months or so and i don't really beat this **** out of my car around town trying to race everyone. so thats basically what i'm looking for...

Man i love my JRSC more than anyone but mine is on my prelude. I would recommend turbo for you D series boys
Its all good though just tune that turbo so you don't have to many probs.

supercharging your EX (i'm guessing thats what you have) is just going to put you in competition with stock GSR's and SI's with bolt ons.

actually no...i have an 89 sedan with a SOHC VTEC swap, Kamikaze headers (good for the supercharger from what i hear) AEM Cai, AEM cam gear, and B&M fpr.
ok as much i appreciate everyones feedback it seems that you get the same people in every supercharger post telling me to go turbo...and thats not the advice i'm looking for
i roll with a D series, even though everyone tells me to swap a B.
and i want a supercharger even though everyone says go Turbo.
hey to each his own...ya know what i mean?

hey man we're just trying to help you out and make a good decision!!! we dont want you to buy a JRSC and get smoked by some kid in a civic coupe with a greddy kit!! that motor in a 4 door ef with a greddy turbo kit would haul ***!!
i'm sure you can get the vortech to work somehow. Contact your mechanic and start asking questions. to see if the GSR kit will work properly
I've been listening to people with JRSC's since 1999 and there is a very strong trend. People with b series VTEC engines have great results. People with b series non-VTEC and d series motors have mediocre to bad results.
Basically, a JRSC on a D series will only bump you up to the power you'd get from a b series VTEC swap.
Personally I would recommend you go turbo. They can be just as reliable as a JRSC if you keep your brain screwed on tight and don't mess with things you don't fully understand.
Good luck!

I'm lazy and I have a busy life. I doubt I will be updating the site. Unless I found a way to learn something by doing it, it's just not going to make the cut.
Sorry! I still answer email though.

so do you want advice or do you just want people to agree with what youhave set in your mind.....
We have both a JRSC on a d16y8 and a greddy kit on a d16z6. From experience of driving both cars one after the other the greddy kit is much faster. Both require pretty much the same type of maintenance, oil changes every 2k, colder plugs, but over all they are both easy to install and as long as you are running 6psi or less neither of them require any fuel management upgrades, just what comes with the kits. Better ignition and bigger exhaust will help also. They are both very fun cars to drive, but once you go turbo you will never go back to a supercharger.

I would not do a vortech on a 7000+ RPM motor. I ran a vortech YS-trim with a procharger sheetmetal 3-core intercooler running 19 pounds of boost on my old half-race stang. Fuel cutoff was at 6900, shifts at 6500, and that was fine because it started building boost fairly early in the RPM range. It didn't hit 19 pounds till about 6400. Now, on a high revving motor like an I4, you're going to be spinning the blower much faster when you're shifting at 7000+ rpm's, so you arn't going to hit boost nearly as soon in the RPM range. Vortech's are good for V8's, not so good for 4-bangers.
I like my JRSC, but thats just me.
Its fun to drive with the RPM's at 3k and punch it, instant boost is neat
In all truth the next motor i build will be a turbo, not because i dislike my SC but because i want a track car.

If you don't believe me ask people on this board that have been in my car.
...hummmm
The only turbo'ed car I've ridden in (aside from OEM turbos) was my friened's Si, and it didnt even hit boost till like 3k with some lag getting off the line.
hella to fun driving straight, but pointless going throught san fransisco traffic.
Mabey I have been basing my opnion on turbos with the wrong car?
