Novice Needs Help / Engine Managment
Set-up:
-Obd-0 B16A / PR3
-T3/T4
-450's
Plan on getting Zeitronix Zt-2
I obviously have a computer.
I was planning on running the "afc-hack" until i could find other means of managment, which is what im trying to figure out with this thread.
I searched the crap out of this place, and im still undecided.
-First i read up on TurboEdit considering i already have an obd-o vehicle/ecu.
Seems to be fairly simple to use as long as you have a wideband, chipburner, laptop and/or time and +basic computer skills, but in my opinion it doesnt seem to be used/supported as much as the other methods of managment.
-Then, I learned a little about Uberdata for Obd-1 applications.
seems to be pretty much the same thing as Turboedit but with more users and support, but then i would have to get a 4wire 02,obd-1 ecu,obd-1 distributor, conversion harness.
also...looks like theres more functions that go along with getting Uberdata like, converting to obd-1 for future "growth" with my set-up. I mean...how far can you go with the obd-o?
-I started to read up on AEM EMS but that seems too advanced for what im looking for as far as costs go and i dont think its neccesary at this point in time.
i would also need to convert to obd-1 for this option.
I basically need to make a decision in the near future so, I would like to hear from you guys before i make my final decision.
Again...I'm looking for the system that will be easy to use, be fairly inexpensive, something with good support ,cause i know im gonna have more questions, and finally i just want something thats more reliable than the "hack".
Let me hear what you guys recommend, what you have had success with, etc.
I would like to hear some success storys using one of the above mentioned units.
I will add questions/thoughts to this thread when i come up with them.
Please feel free to leave comments and any Help would be great
Thanks for your time.

I've HEARD good things about turboedit, basicly the same as uberdata. The Zt-2 is a great wideband, as my friend is having a great amount of success on his GTI with it

It took like 5 seconds to download on my dial-up connection...i was amazed at the download time...anyways i saved it and then opened it but my computer couldnt find anything to open it with, so i looked around for a bit with no success.
any ideas?

Yeah i read some of xenocron's information on his website...seems pretty knowledgeable..hopefully he will chime in sooner or later

Both should help you out. VTEC isnt perfect on the OBD0 vehicles yet but its getting there and there are a lot of happy users doing this currently. Beats converting up to OBD1 IMO
Thanks!

Ok..i learned some more about TurboEdit..
-seems to me that the best bet would be to go with the PM6 in order for me to boost. and then the way you have to wire up vtec seems ghetto and i dont like the fact that you have to guess what to do about ignition and fuel while in vtec plus the maps dont even go into my rpm range.
unless i was reading "out-of-date" information? is there better ways to run boost and vtec with turbo edit?
i would really like to use my PR3 with boost but i couldnt seem to figure out how to do that. i liked the fact that you get the extra 2 maps for hi/low cams and vtec isnt a problem...but how do you add boost?
Is there a way to add boost to the Pr3 ecu and keep the hi/low cam maps and vtec function?

I cant come up with any boost tables/adjustments for the PR3 though...i get the hi/low cam maps (which is nice) but i cant figure out how to get boost.
i did it with the PM6 ecu but those maps dont go into my rpm range and dont have any hi/low cam maps so i'd have to guess what to do about ign/fuel while in vtec which kinda sucks.

this is right off his site, the second link, I think it would work.
Another method you can try if you are using a B16 Engine, is splicing together the Honda Factory tuned maps of the PR3 ECU. These stock maps open in TurboEdit so you can see both the high & low cam fuel & ignition maps. You can copy the sections of the low cam map below your VTEC point in the stock BIN, and then paste them into an open NG48, and then you can select the high cam map of the stock PR3 and copy the cells above your VTEC point and paste them into your NG48 BIN file.

TurboEdit only support the stock PR3/PW0 BIN files.
There is no 'guessing' involved when using a B16. You can use the stock B16 maps in PM6 code and then adjust for larger injectors and retard your timing per whatever specs you like.
The only thing that is different is that there is only one map. And based on where you want your VTEC to be you need to take that into consideration when setting up your maps.
basically load 'low cam' maps in all of the RPM ranges below 4400 rpms and 'high cam' maps in 4400 and above. Then set your VTEC point to be somewhere around 4400-4800 rpms and the ECU will enrich and go into the correct timing for the VTEC cams.
Not really rocket science, but its functional and has been working well for many.
They are currently working on a Dual Table VTEC map BIN file for use in a PM6/PS9 ecu but that is being tested and developed so until that is done, this is all we have.

Yea, you will just use the low cam values for out of vtec and the high cam for in vtec, based on the RPM you have it set to. It just makes it a pain in the ***, not having a dual table. That is the only reason I prefer uber over turbo edit.
