NEW oil feed line question.
I have a 1 ft -4 line to a t fitting, which obviously tees off to another -4 line to the turbo and also to the stock pressure sending unit. Will pressure be affected depending on how you tee the line? I.E. -
----T---- | pressure sender vs. ----T-pressure sender | | Make sense? I know the "diagrams" aren't showing up right, but... Any info guys? [Modified by mplex2000, 4:52 AM 2/8/2002] [Modified by mplex2000, 4:53 AM 2/8/2002] |
Re: NEW oil feed line question. (mplex2000)
C'mon guys, any ideas? I'm about to go out in the freezing ass garage to swap mine around to see if it makes any difference. Let me know if I should not bother.

Re: NEW oil feed line question. (mplex2000)
I'd pick the first diagram.

Argh, that's the way I have it now. I really have my doubts as to whether it makes a difference, but I think I'm gonna try switching it.

block------T-----turbo ...............|........... ........sending unit..... as opposed to: block..........T.........sending unit ..................|............ ...............turbo....... is this what u mean...?? beacause theres no difference...! [Modified by Giuseppe, 5:34 AM 2/8/2002] |
Re: NEW oil feed line question. (Giuseppe)
That's what I figured, six to one half dozen the other but I changed it anyway. At least it made things a little neater!

, six to one half dozen |
Re: NEW oil feed line question. (mplex2000)
the phrase is "6 or one half dozen of the other".
anyway, I just went through all this in 25 degree weather outside. I actually had a small metal frag plugging my oil feed line. All ok now although i may be rebuilding my turbo sooner due to only a trickle of oil flow. I have mine Teed off the block with the sending unit on the T and a -3 line coming off the T to the turbo. I then put another T at the end of the feed line and connected a Greddy pressure sender there and another -3 line to the turbo. I measure max pressures there of about 35psi at most rpms (-3 line seems to limit pressures) and lowest pressures at idle of about 15psi. torin |
Re: NEW oil feed line question. (GruvyTune)
I think I am going to change out the longer -4 line with a -3, because it appears I' getting a little oil past the seals once or twice a day when the car puffs smoke as I take off in 1st. Hopefully I don't need a rebuild already.

block-----T-----turbo
| P sender This setup looks like it will have a better flow to the turbo. The oil doesn't have to make a right hand turn. |
Re: NEW oil feed line question. (GruvyTune)
the phrase is "6 or one half dozen of the other". what does it mean.!! |
Re: NEW oil feed line question. (Giuseppe)
It means you can take 6 OR a 1/2 dozen which mathematically is the same thing. Simple.

Re: NEW oil feed line question. (Giuseppe)
But not half or 50% as gay as a 1g DSM BOV!
|
Re: NEW oil feed line question. (HXMan)
actually if we really want to get technical
block-----T-----turbo ..............| ..........P sender This setup looks like it will have a better flow to the turbo. The oil doesn't have to make a right hand turn. because the oil would have to 'jump' another 1/4 inch to span the T fitting gap, the only way the pic above is 'better' is if the T was facing upwards and the oil had to travel against gravity...! but then u could say that the sending unit has static flow, because its a 'dead end' and a straight line would work best...this is right too, ahh, WFC... |

But not half or 50% as gay as a 1g DSM BOV! my comment wasnt towards you, but the phrase... chill.! |
Re: NEW oil feed line question. (mplex2000)
some call it six, some call it half a dozen.
some say potaytoe, some say potahtoe and some post dumbass pictures for no apparent reason http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emwink.gif |

Re: NEW oil feed line question. (Giuseppe)
Joking, joking, trying to make a joke my freind.
So here's another question - I think someone asked something similar already. If I replace the longer length og -4 hose with -3, will it possibly stop the once every day or two that my car decides to blow some oil thru the turbo? It's definitely coming from the turbo, not the engine, but I need to figure out how to stop it. |
Re: NEW oil feed line question. (mplex2000)
lol, i was joking too, just being sarcastic.. http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emsmile.gif
yeah try the -3AN line or keep the -4AN line and use a restrictor to reduce the flow of oil.. either place the reducer at the T of just before the turbo i say try whichever methods is cheapest.. http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emwink.gif hence the cheap DSM BOV, all it does is fart air.. http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emwink.gif good luck.! |
