New motor won't start!!!
After waiting 2 months I finally picked up my motor from Jotech today. After we put it in and finished everything, it wouldn't start. It just kept tunring over, but would never catch. When I gave it a little gas it would try to turn over, but it also made a horrible clanking noise from the motor. I have no idea what's going on. It's a fully built GS-R with RS Machine sleeves, Crower rods, Arias 9.5:1 pistons, Skunk2 valve springs and retainers, and Rev valves. I'm so pissed off. Hopefully it's nothing major, but I've had bad luck lately. I guess I'll just have to tow it to Jotech Monday and have Tony look at it. I don't fell like even working on it tomorrow. Sorry for the long post, but I just had to vent. If anyone has any idea as to what's wrong, I'm open to suggestions.
Yeah it does, I double checked that after it wouldn't start when we first tried it. Even if that was the problem it still doesn't explain the noise coming from the motor.
Where the valves adjusted?
You might be losing to much compression if the valves are out of adjustment, hence the reason that you cannot build enough pressure in the cylinders to have the car start.
There are so many variables and things that it could be. Jotech is very knowledgable shop, I would feel pretty confident their engine build is top notch.

I assume they were. I hda Jotech do everything and I would think that they wouldn't forget to adjust the valves. I know Jotech deos great work. I've been going there for about 5 years. I trust that they will take care of whatever's wrong. I'm not mad at them, just frustrated.

This is why you pay a shop $800 to install it and get it running for you.
You could have hurt the motor already. It pays to have professionals install very expensive motors.
Thats not Jotech's responsibility, they should be paid to do that job. You might want to make a gesture to pay them money to look at it and make it run.
Good shops like Jotech need to make money too, nobody likes working for free.
If you ask me, that horrible noise is no oil in the oil pump gear when it turns, it sounds HORRIBLE...unless it fills with oil.
Thats just my advice. You can call me all the names you want now.

I'm not going to call you names. Trust me, I wish now that Jotech had installed the engine. I already paid to have the motor installed once, I just wanted to save money. I have no problem with paying them, but I think that if it doesn't even start on the first try, it's really not my fault. One of the guys that works there is coming out to help me with it tomorrow. Hopefully he can help diagnose the problem.

I understand.
I have alot of experience with these kinds of things, and believe me, it PAYS to pay BIG BUCKS to a shop to get something important to you running.
I bet its your oil pump, watch. As soon as it fills with oil, sound goes away.

check to make sure you have fuel pressure and check all your grounds. Its real easy to over look that and it might not fire. Last but not least make sure you didnt get the tps and map plugs backward.
and my guess on the noise, its the Arias pistons. No oil and they are cold...they will always clack.

Yah, those are some good ones too.

It's probably something simple that you might have overlooked.
Well take it as a lesson learned: Don't Cheap out on an expensive motor.
btw-why didnt you prime the new motor before trying to start it?

the first things that come to mind to check are the spark and fuel.
make sure the firing order is correct and that there is spark to begin with.
also make sure there is fuel and the injectors are firing.
what kind of ignition and fuel systems are you using right now?
some of the other points mentioned are very good, like checking electrical connections such as the grounds and the valves needing an adjustment.

Thanks for all the input. I did prime the engine before trying to start it. I did this with the ECU, injectors, and spark plugs removed. As far as what I'm using, I have a Vortech 12:1 fmu, MSD inline fuel pump, MSD digital 6 ignition system, and stock injectors. I'm just using the fmu and inline pump during the break-in period untill I can get my Hondata tuned on the dyno. I might try a new ECU today and I guess I can check all the connections one more time. I'll let you guys know what happens.

I agree with this guy. what do u think u were doing trying to install a motor on ur own? geeez, only superhumans can install motors. You should have PAID.. BIG BUCKS.. to have the shop do it.
anyways, try checking the fuses, it could be simple as that. good luck scott.

I didn't know it was you scott...
well, yeah, 99% of the time, it is something simple, such as fuse, bad ground and etc like that.
if you get sick of it, walk away, do soemthing else, then come back to it after you chill for a while...you'll be okay

Andrew from Jotech (for those of you who know him) just finished looking at it. We still couldn't figure it out. We pulled off the valve cover and looked for anything wrong and couldn't find anything. I'm towing it to Jotech tomorrow. I know Tony can figure it out. I'll keep you guys posted.

anybody taking bets?
anybody taking bets?
my freinds car did the same thing but the thing was it was going down the track and they pushed it off
there was no spark and he had the msd on there and he disconcted it back to stock and still didnt start i had bad 6 BTM's in the past myself after that check power to the coil and if you dont have power to the coil the big black yellow wire to the dis. i beilive it is check the ignition fuse under the dash that was my freinds problem he was about to get it towed but it was only a fuse
