Default new motor w/boost problem.

i have a freshly built sleeved b16 with a revhard 2c kit and hondata s200b. i put the turbo on with the motor install and drove it roughly 400-500 boosting every now and then but never at full throttle. as it turned out, something went wrong. either my untuned hondata or the effects of slight boost made my pistons heat up expand, and touch the cylinderwalls. luckily all i need to do is rehone and new rings. my ? is do you think it was slight boost or untuned hondata that caused the problem. how do i stop this from happening again. this time i'm not gonna boost at all until the motor's fully broken in. should i break it in with untuned hondata and then tune or just take it to the dyno and tune?

high exhause temps, which means lean condition. so my guess is untuned hondata and boost.
