Need help guys, valve adjustment

Did vavle adjustment, what are the negatives? Also no difference felt....
Ok well I figured out my main problem but I do have a question.
Say the valve opening is not open enough (cant fit the feeler guage in). What negative stuff could this cuase? Power loss? Buring oil very slowely? Also I took the car out and it runs like a champ, but honestly I cant tell any difference after doing the valve job. The car I dont think has ever had one, unless the previous owner had it done which I doubt. Should there be a noticalbe difference? Motor has about 105k on the odometer.
