Default Need help/advice on dropping oil pan

Yesterday my buddy and I got geared up to do the final part of my install, dropping and tapping the oil pan. But, as soon as we get under the car we see that the nuts/bolts on the pan are rusted to ****. This is a 10yr old New York car(salt) and I have never seen so much rust on these things. So our problem is that every socket(10mm) we put on these bolts just ends up breaking off some corrosion and then not grabbing the bolts. We have tried wd-40, etc, but we can't even get a hold of these things to spin them. I'm hoping anybody out there who has dealt with this situation before could offer up some advice? I don't suppose there's any way to drill the pan while it's still on the car because of shavings falling into the pan? Any help appreciated.

I would just get something to poke through the oil pan. ( Screw Driver, yada)

Just to create a hole, then trying screwing in a fitting from there.. And if you can, after the fitting is tighly screwed in, just give it a few welds around....

(hopefully the rust bolts still can hold your oil pan? Dont want the whole pan to fall off, while driving yah know? -=P) Good Luck..

how can you poke a hole? even if you do. that's gonna be a mighty small hole. would it work? dunno. the oil exits the turbo through a good sized hole. it might not flow that well into the small hole in the pan. might even back up into the turbo and mess it up.

edit: maybe you can try out those sockets that takes out damaged bolts.

Poking a hole won't work because your gonna have take it out because your not getting a hole the size of the fitting you need also you will have **** (metal shavings) after you do this not wise IMO.

YES YOU NEED THOSE BOLT REMOVERS!!!!! they do work very well i might add just make sure you have one small enough

Can you elaborate on this please? I just don't see how I could poke a hole big enough for a 3/4" fitting?

I would suggest that you drop the oil pan instead of knocking a hole in it. When you drop the pan you can ensure no debries remains after tapping the hole.

If you seriously can't get the bolts out with pliers...vice grips, or otherwise....this is my last resort advice. Take a chizzle and knock the heads off the bolts, pull the pan off, and drill the rest of the bolts out of the holes, go to the hardware store...or honda if you are one of those OEM honda people, and pick some new ones. thats the only thing I can think of...Same **** happened to me when bolting my header up...trying to get the stock header off the cat with those rusted bolts sucked ***. I took the saw out, cut the ****, went and got new bolts...and did the job.

Im no turbo freak, but once i seen them make a 3/4 hole with a punch.

They center punched it then they had like a cone shaped tool, the end broke though and they kept hammering it untill it made the right size hole in the oil pan, then they tapped it and screwed in a fitting.

Then they drained the oil and put in some fresh stuff. I think the show was like 2 guys garage or something and they put a turbo on a mustang.
